Vigil explains Darksiders’ lack of multiplayer, DLC

What’s more fun than slashing up apocalypse-born beasties with a scythe while riding on molten fire horses? While “nothing” is a tempting answer, we’re gonna have to go with “slashing up human opponents with said pointy implement.” Or at least, that’s what we assume. We have no way of actually knowing, because Darksiders is a single-player only affair. But why?
“We realised early on that we wouldn’t be able to pull off the scope of game we wanted to and have it be multiplayer,” Vigil Games creative boss Joe Madureira told Eurogamer. “We were a new team building new tech and a new IP. We had our work cut out for us.”
“Vigil has a very strong all-or-nothing mentality, and if we’re not confident we can pull it off, we’re not doing it. So we focused on making the most kick-ass single-player game possible.”
He also re-dashed fans’ hopes for Darksiders DLC, after already damning the game to a DLC-less existence last month in an interview with VG247. And if Vigil won’t change its mind after 15 days, well, all hope is lost.
Word on the street, though, is that it’s still a pretty good game! Shocker.

Good for them. I never play multiplayer on the games I own. Never really have the time to get involved. I played MW1 for about 20 mins and got pwnd that I was put off last year. Not ventured into the MW2 multi or Uncharted 2 multiplayer (probably should have it being my fave game, possibly of all time). If they want to spend more time on the main game and make that the best they can then cool by me. I am genuinely excited about this game. I loved TLoZ: OOT (another fave game of all time) and this is apparently just as awesome if some reviews are to be believed, so roll on the 8th!

Ahh I’m starting to hate this new must have multplayer era! Single Player FTW!

It’s nice to have a ‘complete’ package for once. And to see someone tell the ‘IT MUST HAVE MULTIPLAYER’ marketing types to take a hike.

Always refreshing to see that not everyone bows to the ‘MULTIPLAYER’ madness that we are seeing so much of these days.
Granted, Uncharted 2 managed it, but I seriously doubt it would have worked with this.
