According to figures by ELSPA today, over 6.7 million games consoles were sold in the UK last year.

The total amount of revenue earned on hardware in 2009 in the UK was at £1.06 billion.

No doubt thanks to the introduction of the Slim and a price-cut in the second half of last year, PlayStation 3 saw a two percent increase in units sold over 2008, but neither it or Xbox 360 could dethrone Wii as the top selling hardware of '09.

Earlier, the same ELSPA figures confirmed that Xbox 360 outsold Wii in terms of software revenue, while Wii still won it on terms of units sold.

Over £3.3 billion was spent on games in the UK last year.
