Edge of Twilight postponed as Fuzzyeyes deals with layoffs

Edge of Twilight has been postponed but not canceled, according to Fuzzyeyes, but it does look as though the game is no longer in the hands of the developer which is dealing with layoffs at the moment but not a studio closure.
The game is currently being worked on by an outsourcing team until the studio can take over the project again.
Rumors yesterday stated that the game had been canned and that the studio was shutting down, which led Fuzzyeyes CEO Wei-Yao Lu to issue the following statement:
On September 30, Fuzzyeyes has let go the majority of staffs as Fuzzyeyes was confronted with number of challenges, including economic downturn and some legal complications. In order to reduce the operating cost during this problematic time,Fuzzyeyes came to a difficult and unfortunate decision to reduce the number of staffs to a minimum.
On October 5, Fuzzyeyes has struck a deal to sell portion of shares to a third party company. During this transition period, Fuzzyeyes will temporarily seize further development on any project. However, Fuzzyeyes is still in business and the office is still open. Until the transition is fully settled, Fuzzyeyes will suspend all on-site development, but all out sourced development is still on going. Fuzzyeyes will be back in full operation after the settlement, and a number of Fuzzyeyes ex-employees has been offered a position in early 2010. Further details will be released once the transition has fully completed.

Confirmed: GT Academy 2010 Time Trial demo is GT5 code
Confusion over. The GT Academy 2010 Time Trial track releasing on December 17 is definitely GT5 code. This is your first chance to get a proper play of what will almost certainly be the biggest racing game of 2010.
“Yes, it’s GT5 code,” a PR rep just told us by email.
The taster will be a single track for the 2010 GT Academy competition.
Speculation mounted following the announcement of the demo’s release that it would simply be a new track in the Prologue engine: now you know.
So yeah. Get pumped. There’s no date on the game outside Japan as yet.

GT Academy 2010 Time Trial will give “first opportunity” to play GT5
Here we go. The EU PS Blog’s just confirmed that a GT Academy 2010 Time Trial will release on December 17.
As the Blog puts it, “It will be the first opportunity to get a hands-on taster as to what Yamauchi-san and his Polyphony team have been carefully crafting and polishing at their Tokyo base.”
It’s not clear as yet whether this is actually GT5 code or just a new track using the Prologue build. We’re checking now.
Competition-wise, if you qualify in the top twenty within your country and you will be invited to a national final event. If you make it from there only then will you join the 20 that will be taken into the GT Academy 2010.
There’s full details through there.

PSone is 15 years old today
PSone celebrates its fifteenth birthday today, as detailed by this splendid SCEJ page.
The machine launches on December 3, 1994 in Japan, and went on to sell over 125 million units.
It took almost a year to get out of Japan, launching in the US on September 9, 2005 and Europe on September 29 in the same year.
What’s left to say? A beast. A boxy, grey beast. Little life-changing man: we salute you.
Thanks, Blerk.

Using MW2 “javelin” glitch will earn Live ban
MS said last night that using Modern Warfare 2′s “javelin” glitch will see playing temporarily banned from Live.
“While IW works on getting the MW2 glitch fixed, people we catch using it will recieve suspensions from Live,” Live boss Stephen Tolouse tweeted.
“Play fair everyone.”
The glitch involves turning yourself into a flying bomb, basically. You’ll get nobbled for two weeks if you’re caught doing it.
Thanks, CVG.

Homefront’s planned for a 2010 release.
Thanks, EG.

Riccitiello on Medal of Honor – I want the FPS crown back from Acti
EA boss John Riccitiello’s told Kotaku that EA’s Medal of Honor relaunch is a bid to win back leadership in the FPS race from Activision.
“I’m not saying it’s going to happen tomorrow, but in the way that Activision sort of alternates sequels of Modern Warfare and Call of Duty and owns the leadership position in FPS [first-person-shooter], between Medal of Honor and Battlefield, I want it back,” he said.
“And we’re going to get there with innovation and quality.”
The new Medal of Honor takes place in modern Afghanistan, and it’s Bad Company 2 counterpoint is now up to scratch the Infinity Ward’s best, the exec claimed.
“The first [Bad Company] did very well in its first outing,” he said. “The next one is a heck of a lot better and it looks like a worthy competitor to Modern Warfare.”
Medal of Honor ships next year for PC, PS3 and 360. Its first movie hits at the VGAs on December 12.

Treyarch Call of Duty job posting mentions “history”
Treyarch’s dropped a pretty heavy hint that, unsurprisingly, its next Call of Duty game will be based in the past.
This job posting, for a CoD level designer, requires applicants to show they’re able to, “Research subject matter for history and look of the level”.
Activision’s already confirmed that another Call of Duty title will hit next year.
Vietnam, please. Thanks, OPM.

Medal of Honor beardy cover dude is a real man named “Cowboy”
According to this UGO piece, the bearded man on the cover of the Medal of Honor reboot announced yesterday is a real US special forces officer named “Cowboy”.
We’re assuming that’s not his real name. Cowboy was featured in a Time magazine photo spread about life for US troops in Afghanistan in 2002. Here he is lifting weights. Here he is with his “I might kill you next” face on. Here he is liberating some civilians.
We’re only joking, Mr Cowboy. Please don’t hurt us.
The game’s out for PC, PS3 and 360 next year. Thanks, OPM.

Akihabara goes FFXIII-mental ahead of December 17 launch
Tokyo’s Akihabara stores are readying for the launch of Final Fantasy XIII by vomiting tinsel all over themselves, as you can see on Japanese blog Livedoor. Don’t look for too long: you may go blind.
The game’s out in the rest of the world on March 9. That’s assuming Japan doesn’t eat every copy in the meantime.
Thanks, Kotaku.

EA: Tiger relationship remains “unchanged” despite “transgressions”
EA’s said it’s going to stand by Tiger Woods, following the golfer issuing an apology to his family over his “transgressions”.
Woods was involved in car accident this week, after which he was taken to hospital and saw fit to go public about his nocturnal activities.
“Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged,” EA told GI in a statement.
“We respect Tiger’s privacy, we wish him a fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the golf course.”

Dyack: “I’m a patriot”
Denis Dyack believes in the flag. Too Human was carved in maple. Silicon Knights is a child of the snowy north.
“I’m a patriot,” he told GI. “I’m a big believer in Canada, I’m a big believer in Ontario and I want the industry to grow here.”
The studio boss added that the future was bright for the Canadian games industry.
“When speaking to the government it may have been self-serving that they should look at our industry, but I’m a huge fan of Peter Drucker, and if you look at traditional industry, service-based industry, they are going to remain OK, he said.
“Manufacturing is in decline. But knowledge based industries where we fit in are going to grow.”
Go Canada. Is it Christmas yet?

Gamespot gives Rogue Warrior, um, 2/10
Rebellion’s Rogue Warrior’s looking as though it may be heading into a Metacritic disaster this morning, as Gamespot’s decided to give the game a lemon-sucking 2/10.
“This dreadfully boring, expletive-filled, extremely short shooter is an absolute rip-off,” said the site.
GamePro’s added to the woe with a 1.5/5 score, and the title currently owns a 42 percent MC average.
You can buy it now.
Update: You can see it in action on GiantBomb. Warning – very funny, not safe for work. Thanks, Pysk.

Side quests in Mass Effect 2 contain “handcrafted gameplay”

BioWare’s Casey Hudson has told VideoGamer that side quests in Mass Effect 2 will have a sense of variety, as if the gameplay were “handcrafted”.
“When you find mission[s] out there in the uncharted worlds, there are always missions where something special happens, and you get really good handcrafted gameplay and art that you can’t see elsewhere in the game,” he said. “I think people will find them to be really rewarding, really rich, because there’s something different around every corner.”
He also talked a bit about the mini-games you will play to get resources off the planets.
“Instead of having to drive around on a planet in the vehicle as a mission, where you’re just really picking up rocks and having to jump out and do that kind of stuff, now it’s part of a really cool planet exploration mini-game where you’re spinning the planet around underneath you, you can feel with the controller rumbling, you can hear the sound of anomalies and resources being picked up by your sensors and close in on them and send space probes. So that part is a lot more interesting.
“Running around and getting resources is now in a cool mini-game instead of you doing it on foot.”
The interview spans eight pages through the link, so go do your business before settling in for it.
