Take-Two loses $138 million in 2009
Take-Two lost $138 million in fiscal 2009 compared to $97 million profit in the previous year, the company said last night.
Revenue fell from $1.5 billion in 2008 to $968 million in the year ending October 31, 2009.
Q4 revenue actually rose, up to $343.3 million this year, compared to $323.4 million in 2008.
The publisher did post an increased loss for the quarter, however, down to $22 million from $15 million a year ago.

Damn, they really need to find a way to make profit in non-gta years

Take-Two always seem to be losing money despite publishing games that sell well.

Next year is a non-GTA year so we shall see, they have a lot of games coming out in 2010 that have great potential

I tell you what there is going to be alot more hacked consoles and alot of hate for the gaming Industry before this ression is over!
by the way borader lads sold what is now 2 million! yea how is that pc port doing.
you want to know Take-Two”s problem it’s making them costing games for consoles. High production costs in a ression will kill alot of console game companies.
my words are solid!

Their revenue breakdown is fairly interesting.
Year Ending 31/10/2009
360: 41%
PS3: 16%
Wii: 11%
PC: 11%
PS2: 7%
DS: 7%
PSP: 7%
I’m guessing that the GTA DLC must have made up a significant proportion of their income. Either that or Borderlands sold significantly better on the 360 than anywhere else.

It was a loan TH. They’ll have already got it back.

Really PT i thought Microsoft paid 50m so it would generate more money for them. You know have the same effect gta 3 had on the Ps2

Not really TH… they did it because Take Two were over a barrel at the time and they saw a chance to take advantage. I’d wager Take Two look the loan because it was preferable to having to sell up, or going into bankruptcy (which was looking quite likely for a while).

It mentions nothing about a loan on the wikipedias page but then saying that it is Wiki. Microsoft would have been foolish to pay 50m for dlc so youre probally right about the loan

With regard to losing money… if the DLC was to generate more than $50m dollars then the contract would have likely reverted to the standard 70/30 split (Take-Two / MS). Less than $50m… Take-Two would end up paying MS the difference.
It’s already been discussed to death though, so we’re really just covering old ground again here.

Id wager that the GTA dlc will make it to the Ps3 if it hasnt had the effect they wanted.

7% on the DS? I assume the disinterest in Chinatown Wars and the growing fame of the R4 cards are killing third parties dead on that front then?
On the PC front it’s clear, Take 2 don’t have an MMO at all do they? MMO’s more often than not are big money churners.

I wouldn’t be surprised Hunam. Same story for the PSP.

I think it did though Hindle. it was assumed The Lost And Damned sold about a million in a month. Not sure about Gay Tony though, wasnt alot of hype and follow up on that one.

When i so the press conference in which the dlc was announced, Microsoft were hyping this at a Gta 3, Vice City, and San Andreas level, that it would sell as many consoles as them games did. Thats what i gathered anyway.

Your first mistake was listening to company spinmeisters.
