The VG247 Community and Game Awards 2009 – the results

Monday, 14 December 2009 09:56 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Now we’re on the verge of wrapping up 2009, it’s time to reflect on what’s been and gone this year. The good times. The bad times. The community. The tears. The pain. The typing in pants at 4.00am. The megatons. The games. The companies. The faces. The CMS telling people to stop posting so quickly. The glory times.

For VG247, 2009 has been exceptional, mainly for the strength of its ever-growing community. We’re nothing without you, so these awards are our way of saying thank you. We hope you had fun. If you’ve won a prize, mail patrick [at] with your address, and I’ll make sure you get it before Christmas.

To the game-makers and publishers included this year, we want to say a massive congratulations for everything you’ve achieved in the past 12 months. These awards are purely based on reader votes. Your tiny plastic trophy, straight from the heart of the VG247 community, is on its way.

Big up. Here’s to 2010!

‘Gratz to all the game devs and pubs, and all the games that have won and been nominated.

My expectations for the Shatner has been dashed though. :(

  5. pleasant_cabbage

Yep. Gotta agree with those results. Well done chaps.

Shame there ain’t no ‘sexiest poster’ award. Cat. Among. Pigeons. ;)

    #5 5 years ago
  6. Psychotext

Wow… thank you. I’ll endeavour to continue being a finance geek and providing that little extra info where it’s useful. :)

Congratulations to Blerk (damn you, beaten again!), and to our new official fanboy TEA. Commiserations to the winner of the Shatner award. Happy to see OlderGamer in best poster list, proving that you can write more than a couple of sentences without coming across as an arse. ;)

Seems like a well deserved win for Uncharted 2 / Naughty Dog in 2009 (still not picked it up, though I will at some point!), and I’m not surprised that Mass Effect 2 is the most anticipated game of 2010 as I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic.

Yeah, I can keep an eye out for spammers Pat. I’d wager I’m on that list because I never sleep. :D

Either of the other two work just as well… maybe more than one works best? Or if Pud is interested and you only need one, perhaps have him do it.

  31. theevilaires

lol pyschotext comes in second for best poster, psychotext for mod…been sending your friends over here eh PT. I bet last year best fanboy was someone who enjoyed PS3 more than 360 eh. And Cort goes in the shatner….this is a real funny website.

I guess this is real life to most of you, the bad guy gets praised but the good people who make this site fun gets trashed…oh well can’t be upset this is how the euro mind thinks it seems. You can forward my winnings to Reask, Garratt.

    #31 5 years ago
  32. The Hindle

I am surprised by the winners, Bdh should have won at least hes funny in a deranged kind of way no offense BDH.

    #33 5 years ago
  34. Robo_1

Well done to the winners, all worthy choices.

TEA, why the downer? It’s all done with good humour, and for what it’s worth this place wouldn’t be the same without it’s fanboys – take your copy of Assassins Creed 2 and enjoy it mate. :)

    #34 5 years ago
  35. Gheritt White

Congrats on the win everybody, you should all open a bottle to celebrate – it certainly sounds that TEA wants some more wiiiiiine!

I can’t speak for everybody here, natch, but I think what most people want here is a site that’s more civilised than one that’s more “fun”. If I wanted that kind of fun, then I’d post at EG, CVG, N4G or GAF.

    Kudos everyone!

Unless I’m mistaken, each member I voted for in the first 5 categories won, while I didn’t get anything on the remaining 4; I guess I pay more attention to the members of the site than the games it covers…

    #64 5 years ago
  65. Retroid

    Late congrats, people! \o/

Blerk’s been going on about getting DJ Hero, seriously. He’s going to slam those beats into the bassline, daddio. So he said.

Or he could’ve been talking about using root vegetables as bait for salt water fishing.

    #65 5 years ago
  66. DaMan

so what bdh was saying is that it wasn’t actually Pat’s decision not to ban him, but the Jesus’ will. oh well.

    #67 5 years ago
  68. Michael O’Connor

I really have no idea why you got that Cort, personally.

I mean, BDH and TEA probably got 99% of the votes. Some asshats probably just put your name in a few times, and since the two most obvious candidates were out of the way… =P

This will be my last post though I’ll still read the best damned gaming blog in teh world.

    #72 5 years ago
  73. Psychotext

F’that. I can’t imagine why anyone would have voted for you on that one.

vg247 is not like the other gaming sites, they like to have other peoples views.

not everyone agrees and sees the world the same as you do, or other people.

the people who hate me are people who don’t like the truth.

agin I never did get along with bully’s and I am glade the world can see the truth.

sites like vg247 gives me alot hope for humanity. Humanity still has that flame of goodness in it.
