November NPD – Sony focuses on growth, “appetite and interest” for PS3

Sony has responded to the November NPDs, by touting the console’s growth by 88 percent YoY, and how sales were up 122 percent over last month’s figures (320.6K).

“In November, PS3 was the only hardware console to see any growth when compared to last November, experiencing an 88 percent lift and a 122 percent increase from the previous month,” stated SCEA CEO Jack Tretton via email.

“The sheer appetite and interest in the PS3 this holiday has been overwhelming and is exceeding our expectations. So much so, some retailers are expected to experience tight supply this December.

“There’s no question the holidays are looking very bright for PlayStation and we’re confident that the new year is on pace for the same with hugely anticipated titles hitting the platform, such as MAG, God of War III, BioShock 2, and Final Fantasy XIII.”

November was the console’s third-best month in unit sales ever, having moved 710.4K units, coming in just under December ‘07 and ‘08 figures.

Taking a leaf out of Nintendo’s playbook again I see. I hope one of their execs doesn’t come out and offer $1000 for each PS3 shoppers are able to find on store shelves… :)

Bioshock 2? Sure that’s more likely to sell better on 360?

@ ybfelix

It’s on the PS3 and they should make that known. I hope they throw more marketing money behind multiplatform games.

NPD’s Anita Fraizer tweeted earlier that PC retail came in at $1.46B US which is down 6.6% from Nov. 08.

Just to provide you all with information. :-)

Also, I would not call stock dropping by 50 cents from opening this morning, and steadily climbing back up to only a 28 cents decline “dropping like a ton of bricks”. Considering its all time high this year was at around 12.88 a share, 10.58 (at last check) is not a considerable loss.

Also, Kotick dropped loads of stock onto the market before and after the launch of MW2 so that has to be taken into consideration as well.

I think he can forget about the shortages.
I bought mine 2 weeks ago with fifa 10 for 310 Euro.
This week the same shop is offering PS3 with MW2 for 299.

Also some great 360 deals as well mind you.
I reckon most of the big Xmas items are purchased at this stage as folks are counting the pennies this year.
