Greenberg: Reach, not GT5, will win 2010

haloreachlogo

Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg’s assured Gama, and not Polyphony’s GT5.

“Is it launching next year?” he joked of the racer.

“I’ve seen years and years of mini-games, but I haven’t seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version – maybe that’s what they’ve been working on. I feel confident that there’s nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.”

Reach is expected towards the end of next year: GT5 is slated for a March launch in Japan.

Thanks, EG.

GT P sold 4m when the Ps3 was being hammered every month robo, In europe its massive, in Japan its massive, In Na is big but Halos bigger. Life time sales for Gt 5 will be 10m of course it wont do that in one day

And to correct you Robo, Sony so far have sold 27m Ps3s last time they updated thier statisics

okay, so 27, not 25m. I did say ’25 or so’, but thanks for being pedantic.

No way GT5 will do 10m IMO, but then it can’t be proved now – we’ll see once it’s been out for a while.

They should both quit their cat-fighting and caterwauling for once, as it’s abundantly clear that the one to really watch in 2010 is likely to be Konami’s Castlevania, Lords of Shadow. :)

I must admit that the Castlevania trailers have looked good, and the voice work is of sterling quality, but with the amount of hack and slash games next year I truly don’t see what Castlevania has going for it that the other titles don’t.

Shutup, the ONLY one for ‘everyone’ to watch in 2010 is Red Dead Redemption.

Yeah, the whole argument’s quite amusing really. I’m finding it hard to think of any games for next year which are quite as yawn-inducing as GT5 and Halol Reach.

I like Aaron Greenberg actually. He’s actually not that cocky

To be honest though.
Aren’t Halo fanboys the only ones actually interested in getting a new Halo now?
From what I’ve seen over the interwebz a lot of people are united in the idea that Halo is in decline.
Then again, I’m only talking about the snapshot I’ve seen.

I like Greenberg too. Of course he is all up about Xbox, because that’s his job, but he tends to comment more as if he and a friend of a similar position in Sony are having a friendly competition than anything cuntish.

You know, reading throguh ths conversation it is true. The onyl game that ISN’T a shooter coming from Microsoft (or tied exclsuie) next year is Fable 3.

The vast majority of games involve shooting in some respect, though. Even stuff like Ratchet and Clank has guns.

Actually, Fable has guns too. :-D

Just food for thought, um, but if Zelda makes it out for next year …might be bigger then either of these rehashes.

Nah. Zelda’s not that a huge seller these days. Besides which, there’s fuck all chance of Zelda making it next year. :-D

Zelda has shooting too!

Well, all I meant by that was, the ONLY shooter I know of from Sony next year is MAG. I literally dont think there is another shooter from them, next year (so far).

I agree I think its a streatch to see Zelda next season. But all the Wii needs is one game. In the end, a few years from now, don’t be amazed if The New Super Mario Bros Wii doesn’t outsell and out distance every other game that launched this year. Including, but not limited to CoD MW2. Mario is good as any game I have ever played. And being on the Wii and from nintendo that baby is gonna have legs.

OlderGamer, I agree, I cant wait for ‘Citizen Kane 69′ next year.

I’m so glad we don’t exist in a parallel universe where the medium of film was so pompous to assume progress could be made beyond the films of 60 odd years ago.

Not alot of Nintendo love in here lol.
I am not a fanboy of any system.
I just think that fun isn’t that hard to manage. Some games hit fun squarly on the head. Tetris for example is Tetris. It is simple, fun, and doesn’t need retooling to continue to be fun. Alot of games are like that. Beyond the window dressing they are at their core unchanged from what made them fun to begin with. Newer doesn’t mean better.
By the same type of thinking every new game that came out would be amazing. They would be leaps forward. They would be heaps more fun then anything before them. But of course thats not always the case. I have many older games that I still play to this day.
I still play activly, nearly daily. Phantasy Star Online(GC on my Wii). I still do monthly Mechassult Lan parties. My wife just recently bought Bust a move for the XBLA, nothing new in that game but a new coat of paint. She loves Zuma, pretty basic game, no need or room realy to be retooled. Sometimes updating an old game is all that is needed. I still play Civilization, of course now it is CiV 4. Lots of cases of new not equaling better. Just as many cases of new equaling improvments too. But often that is all it is, improvments. Fundamentaly speaking, is UC2 any different then UCone? Any different then Tomb Raider? Its Indiana Jones in a video game. After Castle Wolfenstin, came Doom, Came Quake, came Unreal, fastforward comes Call of Duty, comes Halo … what comes next owes so much to Castle Wolfenstin and its 8 3.5inch floppy discs so many years ago.
What you call progress, Pud, I call evolution. We are all still playing Poleposition, Venture, and Pitfall. Except now we call them GT5, Dragon Age:Origins, and Super Mario Bros.
You see it in movies too. First of all, my wife and I watch White Christmass every year. Its a family tradition, I think that movies was made in the late 50s or early 60s. But you need only to look at old movies being remade, from the literal ones like War of the Worlds)Tom Cruise) to hard to identify ones. Such as old stories retold in new movies. The themes, human experience, and basic stories don’t change too much. The window dressing, that is the settings, special effects, and technology in which they are delivered does. Apply the samething to video games. Esp, in this case to Nintendo and their “dated franchises”.
Sure it is a Zelda game. Boy saves princess from a big bad. Pretty universial theme if you ask me. Its Zelda, but the manor of wich the game is delivered is going to change. Toss is a few twists and tweaks while leaving the fun untouched and unchanged….that still works. Why because in the end like Zuma, PSO, Tetris, and Zelda the game is fun to play.
Video games are really not that complicated. The tricky part is convincing consumers that they need to play and buy new ones all of the time.

lmfao.. comparing a FPS to a a Racer because they know Forza bombed ass in comparison to a game thats not even released yet. Everyones waiting for the far superior GT brand.

Halo Reach will sell for the same reason the ODST sold.. the fanbois are obsessed with Halo even if all you added was a 2 hour story and a “new” multiplayer mode. looool.

93 is pure right. and off topic real quick what happened to pracer?

Are we doing blocks of text now?

Evolution is often progress. Sometimes it’s changes, to suit the times, but fundamentally, it’s making things better.

If you see things thematically, then I can’t help you, but the ludic aspects are fundamentally different nowadays, from how they were even 5-10 years ago.

It’s clear to me the games you listed, support your argument, but they are 3 of the most archaicly designed games/franchises still around. GT, virtually unchaged since it’s inception, Dragon Age: Baldur’s Gate in 3D, Super Mario Brothers, is just that.

And even then, those quasi-retro games are still FUNDAMENTALLY different from games we played 20 years ago. Due to the times, due to innovations, due to fads, due to genuine progress/evolution.

Outside of what you want to call it, if you can’t FEEL the evolution, then your handle seems only to be factually correct. You’ve missed out on observing your hobby, this medium of entertainment/expression grow.
