The single biggest reason PS3 has had the sales it has had is NOT because of games, it’s because of the Blu-ray. It was the most affordable Blu-ray player for the first 18 months it was out. If they didn’t have the blu-ray, it wouldnt’ have had half it’s sales.

And what facts do you base this on Oldergamer? Is it the fact Microsoft have had a full year head start yet they are only 6m ahead. I mean Sony are pretty much equal in Europe and ahead in Japan of the 360.

You might be right for America though. Plus they have yet to have thier biggest games release on the console id say its far from over. You know things are bad for the 360 when they have to rely on a 3rd party game to sell thier console.

I can’t believe people are shocked the XBox 360 outsold the PS3 in November. There was heavy marketing for Modern Warfare 2 on the XBox 360 as, “the best way to play”. It’s the Modern Warfare 2 effect.

The battle is for second place in terms of hardware, but for first place in terms of software sold. Esp Thrid party software. Nintendo owns their own platform cold. But if I was a 3rd party, I wouldn’t publish on the Wii. That honour would be between the xb360 and the PS3.
And not to sound like an ass, but I think that Sony needs to understand and accept that they will be last this gen. It is just the way it is. Start thinking about next gen. Make an affordable system. A system that developers can sink their teeth into right away the whole raw power vs accsible power did them no favors this gen. And continue to perfect their online service, PSN is still chasing LIVE, but it has gotten tons better. Learn from this gen and come out next gen swinging.
Because by the time Sony truely catches up, maybe even starts to pull ahead of MS, the next gen will be at hand. Before the PS3 can dominate:
Nintendo will release a fully BC HD/online Wii 2.
MS will release XBnext.
I think that a ten year lifecycle is a bit much to ask. Sure the PS2 is still selling, so in that respect it is true. But does anyone think the PS2 is gonna win a month? I think an arguement could be made that the PS2 is holding the PS3 back some. I am not sold on the idea, but I see the logic to it. And I can see a day when Sony is still pushing/selling PS3s and MS and Nintendo have new systems out there. That of course will lend itself to the recreating the very same situation Sony has right now. They are behind, and chasing their competetion.

Unexpected result for Sony/Microsoft there, although I’m sure Sony won’t be unhappy with that figure.

Did people seriously think the Wii wouldn’t go batshit mental on the sales front again in time for Christmas, though? The whole “Wii is dying” thing seemed terribly short-sighted back when people first started saying it. It was obviously the lull before the Christmas boom.

Pretty good for Microsoft. Not a fan of the Wii at all, but I wonder if selling 1.26 million will silence all the talk of the Wii’s demise. Sure would be nice to see how MS would fare if $50.00 was shaved off their elite price.

I think Wal*Mart would have probably levelled out over the entire month because they were selling Arcades for $99 at the start of the month (Or $199 with a $100 voucher). That said, NPD do estimate their figures so they probably took all that kind of stuff into account.

That aside, I completely bolloxed up the 360 / PS3 part of my prediction. I thought the PS3 would win by a healthy margin this month. I’m very pleased with the rest of my numbers though.

although its not accurate at all, and considering the deal that Walmart had(and the fact that their sales numbers are not published) I’m sure that walmart had at LEAST 100k in PS3 sales themselves….
