Rumor no more folks. According to a post on the EU PS Blog, the “pre-Christmas” firmware update for PS3 will support PSP Minis.
If you purchase a mini game from December 17 onward, it will work on both platforms so if you have a PS3 and a PSP you will only need to buy it once and it will be available to download on both.
Update 3.15 will be optional, and also includes a new PS3 Data Transfer system that makes the process of moving stored data from one PS3 to another much easier.
More through the link.
Thanks, Joystiq.

Be curious to see how they look upscaled to 1080p!
Now get on with bringing the rest of the PSP lineup to PS3, and we’re onto something.

Tetris on PS3?!?!?!

Makes sense – especially if Mini sales aren’t doing much on PSP alone.
Thanks for bringing out the save game transfer thing a fortnight AFTER the Blu Ray on my original PS3 fucked up, though. Brilliant timing Sony.

Missed that bit. May finally trade in my launch 60GB for a 250GB Slim. It’s only the hassle of the data transfer that’s stopped me doing it.

it will be upsacled, right?

Why haven’t they gone the whole hog and allowed full PSP emulation on the PS3?

because that would hurt the PSP sales….um duh
