More FFXIII screens show man in girl’s hat

ffxiii34

Famitsu’s posted more screens of Final Fantasy XIII. They may be new. They’re new to us. To be brutally honest, we haven’t a blind fucking clue any more.

There’s an awesome one there of a man in a veil and a daft hat. It’ll never be better than this.

It’s out later this month in Japan. Europe and America get it in March.

The jp artistic choices are lost on me. I miss the old 16bit days when you couldn’t tell what gender closest they picked their wardrobe from.

I prefer the JP artistic view vs the generic view that most Westerners use. It is just awe-inspiring. Seymour in FFX was in a similar hat when he was getting married to Yuna.

I am sure that many folks feel that same way Phoenix. I am not one of em tho. No right or worng here, I just want things set in a Tolken style world. One thing to keep in mind western rpg styles might seem generic to you, that is because you are familer with them. They feel cookie cutter. I think it would be the same type of thing if you lived in JP(as to the JP artic design). Western is western, eastern is eastern. But I think a lot of people will look at that pic and think “wtf?”

I live in the West, and I think most Japanese ‘artistic views’ are terribly generic. Once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all and FFXIII is no different in this regard. There are a few manga artists that are actually quite brilliant though, like Hiroaki Samura, but most Japanese artists are in their own way and within their own style just as generic as their Western counterparts. There are some deluded kids, and Phoenixblight *might* be one of those, who idolize everything that comes out of Japan and consider their culture superior. Those kids will also go on and on about how original Japanese comic book artists are, simply because it looks Japanese. I’m definitely buying FFXIII, I’m really looking forward to it in fact, but you’re kidding yourself if you seriously believe that artstyle is anything other than generic and predictable.

You say Tomato I said Tomatoe. BTW I am not a kid 30 years old and with a child. So fuck off.

Go ahead name a Western Game that was original in its artistic view.

Prince of Persia really?

Halo?!

Artistic view is all subjective. Soong says all Japanese view is generic I say most western is pretty generic.

BTW

I thought Bioshock had a very dark artistic view on humanity.

i’d say mirrors edge, bioshock, the mass effect extended universe if you count that.

However, i’m also a big fan of japanese culture and i would say their media suffers the same as the west, some generic stuff, the occasional new leese.

We’re not all that different you know ^^

Jadeskye says it better than I did: just like in the West, most of the Japanese media is generic. It’s no different in Japan than over here, you will mostly find generic and clichéd artstyles that imitate what’s already been proven as popular. FFXIII’s character design fits neatly into that category, it’s as generic as they come in Japan.
Btw, I didn’t say you were a kid Phoenix, I said you *might* be one of those Japan-idolizing Western Otaku kids, but that not you *definitely* were.

I bet Gok Wan would have something to say about that.

@Hunam

The Same can be said about Final Fantasy. You see a scantily clad woman with powder blue skin who do you think?

“Artistic view is all subjective. Soong says all Japanese view is generic I say most western is pretty generic.”

They’re both horribly generic.

When something original comes from out of the pile of generic crap, that’s the stuff I take notice of.

Hmm, I think there’s a fundamental misunderstanding going on here: the aesthetics of the clothing in these games aren’t exactly Japanese in origin–they’re really faux-Western Medieval/Fantasy filtered through a misguided Japanese interpretation. Imagine, for instance, a 3rd generation Texan from the US trying to design a Heian era costume. That’s pretty much what you’re getting here, except in reverse.

Yeah, I know that (@yoggesothothe) and these “japanized” western medieval/Mediterranean designs are a very popular source of inspiration for Japanese artists. That’s one of the reasons it looks so terribly clichéd and generic to me, every other Japanese artist uses it nowadays. Check out Bayonetta for another example (and google ‘Gaudi’ to see where the inspiration for the architecture came from) of this style, although I like the designs in Bayonetta more somehow – probably because it’s not meant to be taken seriously in Bayonetta in the first place.

Geek moment: did you notice that Vanille’s Summon (the fourth picture on this page: http://www.the-magicbox.com/0912/game091207b3.shtml) looks remarkably similar to the Magitek Armor from Final Fantasy VI (http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/8825/finalfantasy6.jpg)?

Fat Princess has one hella unique and distintivly fresh graphical style in my opinion.

If you squint your eyes really hard…… No not all. What the hell is that summon Vanille is on looks like a mechanical bird on one leg.

@Phoenixblight

Oh come on – even the poses of the riders are the same (you did check the fourth picture right?). And it’s on two legs, obviously – did you think it would hop around like a pogo stick or something?

I see that but it still does not look similar besides they both being ridden. One the FFVI logo only has 2 arms and 2 feet where whatever Vanille is riding has 4 gun-arm things and two feet.

Plus The logo for VI is a character riding magical mechanical armor which if you played are not similar to what Vanille is riding.

Ok, ok. We all know you love FF and that you like showing that in all FF posts. But you’re too annoying, man.
If you’re really 30 yo, you should spend more time taking care of your child instead of boasting about FF here.

Child is on the way. Nothing more annoying then a person that says yo or ya know what I mean. I am excited for FFXIII and you would also know that I post on all other news too. Its not just FF. Alright yo! You know what I mean…
