inFamous sells 1.2 million units

The US PS Blog’s put a 1.2 million sales figure on Sucker Punch’s inFamous.

That’s it. Apart from the fact that as of December 10, Cole’s ‘Gigawatt Blades’ Super Power, will become available for free on PSN. This was previously a pre-order bonus.

Are you kidding? These figures are terrible. A lot of games do that in a week, less well known titles do that over a month, and that’s been out for ages.

Yeah such a complete fail Sony is investing in making a sequel. FOr a new IP and it being exclusive that is good number to be at vs Dead space Extraction which only sold 9k in the first week, thats a fail.

For a new, single (third place) platform, IP these are good figures.

I also hope you don’t mean ‘fail’ towards the quality of the game either… Because it’s very good!

Is that US or world wide? If it’s just US, then I’d imagine it’s done a comfortable 3 million worldwide, but if that is a worldwide figure, then yeah, I’d say it’s a rather underwhelming, if not disastrous result.

Either way, it’s one of my games of the year and I hear it’s getting a sequel.

The least hyped, least advertised PS3 exclusive title breaks 1 million in one region. That’s good.

I wasn’t talking about the quality of the game, I know it’s good and I plan to pick it up on the cheap.

I posted similar comments for Uncharted 2, which is probably My Game of the Year, which sold way less that I would like.

Seems like a lot of people have no idea how few titles really do over 1M when exclusive and a new IP.

Very few games see Halo, Gran Tourismo, Gears, Metal Gear Solid, GTA and Modern Warfare sales.

Anything over 1M for a new IP is pretty good going these days, particularly with sequels taking up so much of people’s wallets.

Loved this game, first time I actually committed the time to getting the Platinum trophy.

Great mix of open world gameplay and a half decent story.

People have been so used to hearing the biggest titles ship a few million in a week that they fail to realise just how good 1 million copies of any games sold is.

Something doesn’t have to set the charts alight and beat the competition into the ground to be a success.

It all has to be relative to the budget at the end of the day. inFamous had nowhere near the resources of something like Killzone 2 committed to it, so I imagine over a million sales is a good result. Would that make Sony in the region of 10 million?

Really enjoyed what I played of it in the demo, but never went out and boguht it.

GiantBomb impressions should have pushed me over the edge, but i didnt bite.

A safe bet this generation is always to buy the sequel.

Done it the wrong way round with AC and ACII, but the right way with Uncharted and U2.

Looking for Infamous 2, to be my 2012 pickup.
