Using MW2 “javelin” glitch will earn Live ban

modernwarfare2

MS said last night that using Modern Warfare 2′s “javelin” glitch will see playing temporarily banned from Live.

“While IW works on getting the MW2 glitch fixed, people we catch using it will recieve suspensions from Live,” Live boss Stephen Tolouse tweeted.

“Play fair everyone.”

The glitch involves turning yourself into a flying bomb, basically. You’ll get nobbled for two weeks if you’re caught doing it.

Thanks, CVG.

Some punk whose user name was (aptly) ‘ImmaBigFairy’ did this to me this morning.

It’s no big deal really, but I hope he gets banned anyway!!

I was playing against a bunch of people this week who seemed to have some suicide bomb ability. Now I know how they were doing it.

Boring little cheating cunts…

Aye how do people boost by the way?

They mostly just all get together in the same game and take it in turns to go for whatever achievement they want.

If it’s headshots, they just headshot each other over nd over again until they unlock the cammo/badge that they want, etc.

I recorded shit loads of videos of people doing this glitch in the games I played, along with the fast running care package one.

I wonder if this would be sufficient evidence to get them banned.

I don’t think it’s fair to punish players for IW’s mistakes. It’s in the game = fair play. There’s even a chance someone might unwillingly do it without knowing about the glitch. Does he deserve a ban?

What, you mean someone might accidently cook a grenade, but then not throw it, and then switch to his Javelin, but not fire it, and run around next to people without firing, in order to get close enough to blow someone up when they are killed??

It’s not very likely, is it.

@9 you obviously haven’t seen me play

Cooks grenade, spots harrier, crap, switches to javalin, enemy tries to knife me, we both blow up.

Myth….plausible… ;)

If you read Penny-Arcade you generally get a very dim view of MW2 multiplayer. Sounds like a disaster tbh.

I’ve been playing for a few nights now, haven’t seen ninja knife guy, or double shotgun guy, or javelin exploite guy.

But I have been having alot of fun.

In team games of Halo, my son tosses a sticky grenade on a friend and sends him into the enemies base to blow up, then quickly follows in to grab the flag. I don’t play MW2, but how is this any different?

I just came across a pear of stat padders as it happens, they werent using a bug, just letting one guy kill the other.

@ bobby: lol!

@ Freek: I just can’t imagine anyone cooking a grenade without throwing it, as we all know what happens if you do that… Plus, you get plenty of warning about just about everything that you could shoot down with a Javelin other than a Stealth Bomber anyway… More than enough time to take your finger off the button.

Sure, I’m sure some people are all thumbs on a joypad, but if they’re that bad, a ban probably isn’t going to upset them too much.

@ OG: No, it’s not the same thing, because Bungie don’t have a problem with it, and you won’t get banned from XBL for doing it.

Players should not be punished for exploiting a game mechanic or bug that shouldn’t have been in there in the first place.

I have to agree with Sunking to be honest. And, while bungie doesn’t have a problem with it G1GA, thats my point. Why Does IW have a problem with it? Courisly enough I assume the same problem happens on the PS3, is Sony handing out bans too?

did you play the ‘World at war’ beta, when every one was under the ground, if that made it into the game, people should of got banned for doing that, very unsporting.

who the hell sits there trying to find glitches man. Society is fucked up.

Sorry, but that’s a bit of a weak excuse.

There isn’t a single game in the world that’s 100% bug/exploit free, nor will there ever be.

The very fact that it’s taken so many millions of people playing for so many millions of hours to come up with a handful of glitches just goes to prove what a tough job it is for any QA team to find and remove them.

Besides. IW are telling you not to do it, so that means that it’s not a fair part of the game.

They have actually already fixed it on PS3 and PC, and they’re just going through the MS certification process to get it updated on 360.

Nobody likes being cheated, or killed unfairly, and the simple fact of the matter is that this will stop people playing the game if they feel that they’re going to be cheated out of victory all the time.

Which is exactly one of the reasons that I gave up online PC gaming.

At the end of the day, the only people who do this sort of stuff are people who are too rubbish to play the game properly, so they have to cheat.

/tends to agree with G1GA

Retarding-up the way the games plays is hardly an in-game feature.

O.G. if M$ doesn’t Ban those players then people who don’t cheat will “wise” up and leave live. M$ doesn’t want to lose another $50,000,000.

This is what I was looking to know, thanks.

“Which is exactly one of the reasons that I gave up online PC gaming.”

I only play sp games on the pc or sub based mmorpgs for the very same reason. Nothing better then a hacker filled server to enhance the fun.

“I don’t think it’s fair to punish players for IW’s mistakes. It’s in the game = fair play.”

Long ball exists in football, but people don’t use it because it’s inherently cheap, unbalances the game, and is universally frowned upon.

Being “in the game” is not justification for using it. It’s called sporst-manship, and if you *enjoy* using clearly unintended exploits to gain an unfair advantage when playing with other people then that makes you a complete dick, and a bad player.

Plain and simple.

odd i don’t hear any word of them removing the other glitch,

last i heard it was call… grenade launcher or somthing?

I’m not saying it’s not cheap, and I’m not saying it’s not a dick move, but if it’s in the game it’s a viable tactic. You cannot tell people how to play their games.

Simply, if it shouldn’t be in there, then it’s IW’s responsibility to take it out, because it’s their fault it’s been left in.
