Riccitiello on Medal of Honor – I want the FPS crown back from Acti

Thursday, 3rd December 2009 11:04 GMT By Patrick Garratt

EA boss John Riccitiello’s told Kotaku that EA’s Medal of Honor relaunch is a bid to win back leadership in the FPS race from Activision.

“I’m not saying it’s going to happen tomorrow, but in the way that Activision sort of alternates sequels of Modern Warfare and Call of Duty and owns the leadership position in FPS [first-person-shooter], between Medal of Honor and Battlefield, I want it back,” he said.

“And we’re going to get there with innovation and quality.”

The new Medal of Honor takes place in modern Afghanistan, and it’s Bad Company 2 counterpoint is now up to scratch the Infinity Ward’s best, the exec claimed.

“The first [Bad Company] did very well in its first outing,” he said. “The next one is a heck of a lot better and it looks like a worthy competitor to Modern Warfare.”

Medal of Honor ships next year for PC, PS3 and 360. Its first movie hits at the VGAs on December 12.

Should be easy John, MW2 is surprisingly dull given the hype surrounding it’s release. The entire game should have been DLC for COD 4.

    Treason eh??

    Yeah, that’s right.

A new campiagn, a totally re-worked MP and all the special ops levels should have been DLC because…

Wait, what am I talking about.

EA never had the crown in the first place and Acti don’t own it right now either.

Yeah, ‘cos about SEVEN MILLION day one sales means that no-one really likes your game, eh!?

    Great one…

    Popularity = Quality.

News just in, Susan Boyle’s debut album has broken records, the World crowns her “Queen of music”.

This is going to come down to preferance really. For my money CoD games are way overrated anyways. You lone wolves in a fish bowl wouldn’t make it in a Battlefield game. But really kidding aside, no one fps game is going to do it for everyone. And no reason players can’t enjoy more then one fps game. i don’t see there as being a so called “crown” to win. CoD games are big, Halo is madly popular, and yes battlefield Bad Company 2 is going to keep me and my friends up nights. I know people that swear by the L4D games. So to me the idea of just one that rules everything is kind of silly. Just another exec talking out his butt again.

to tell the honest truth It’s pc gamers that made MW or call of duty hot. In fact infinty ward didn’t do anything new at call. They took ideas from mods made from call of duty one.

Yeah, that’s right. The best selling FPS of all time is actually… not as good as some other FPS that the vast majority of other people don’t actually want to play.

    Well done.

COD 4 remains popular to this day NOT because of its capaign play Gigahurtz. What reworked MP? Spec ops is good, but again DLC tbfh.

Nah OG, it was @ comment 9. Sorry for the confusion.

COD 4 remains popular to this day NOT because of its capaign play Gigahurtz.

Exactly when did I say that??

    What reworked MP?

The one you obviously haven’t noticed.

Face it. There isn’t a single bit of DLC for any game in the world that changes the entire gameplay of one of it’s modes.

All DLC ever is, is extra content, with the same gameplay and the same rules.

This is clearly not what the MW2 MP is. If you don’t see this, then I can only assume that it’s because you’re no good at it.
