Dead Space 2: EA Redwood job listing suggests online multiplayer

deadspace20

A job listing for EA Redwood suggests that Dead Space 2 could include online multiplayer support.

The listing sites the need for a “Senior Online Level Designer,” who should “be able to work collaboratively with Creative Director and Online Producer to create extremely fun, satisfying and polished multiplayer levels.”

Here’s more:

This M-rated action/shooter sequel will set new standards for an action-packed story-driven console experience. Our team values are as follows: Gameplay comes first, controller feel is everything, culture of creativity, be highly iterative, playtest early and often, learn from failure, work fast and smart, and surround ourselves with the best talent in the world.

The previous installment in the Dead Space franchise received numerous awards for gameplay, visuals, and sound design, and the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up.

The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place. We have complete autonomy and creative control over our own decisions. The Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP, and has already worked on IP extensions such as comic, animated features, and action figures.

Wonder how those magnetic gravity boots would be used with multiplayer. Endless possibilities, there.

Thanks, Joystiq.

Star Trek Online box art revealed

startrekonline

Atari and Cryptic revealed the box art for Star Trek Online this week.

The picture above is just a taste of what’s cradling the game disc.

We don’t usually make a habit out of posting box art for games, but sometimes we make an exception – and this is one of those times.

Does the coverboy look like a mix between Ray Liotta and John Travolta to anyone else, or do we need our eyes checked? Judge for yourself passed the break.

Game’s out February 2.

Thanks, BigDownload.

Check out the screens for point-and-click adventure, Lost Horizon

losthorizon

Lost Horizon, the PC point and click adventure game from the makers of Secret Files, has some new screens for it posted over on IGN.

Set during the 1930′s, the game contains locales such as Hong Kong, Morocco, and Tibet, as the player takes on the role of smuggler and former British soldier Fenton Paddock.

Tasked with finding a lost expedition in Tibet, he must beat the Nazis to the ever mythical Shambala if he is to prevent them from using the magical kingdom as a weapon for further conquest.

Shambala should sound familiar to some gamers at this point, but we won’t say why just in case.

Lost Horizon is set for release next year on the PC.

Record of Agarest War gets simultaneous release on PS3, Xbox 360

recordofagarestwar

Aksys Games has announced that Record of Agarest War is now also coming to Xbox 360, and will get a simultaneous release with the PS3 version this fall.

The PR says it has over 100 hours of gameplay, where you can wage war agianst the evil forces of darkness and “take a bride—actually, several brides— and extend their lineage across five generations”.

Honestly, after reading the PR, we don’t know if we should be feeling a bit offended or be ashamed for laughing our ass off. Seriously, it’s a great PR read, so have at it.

Full PR below the break.

Half-Life 2 mod has you battling Nazi dinosaurs

dinod-day

A Half-Life 2 mod called Dino D-Day has been released, and the dinosaurs aren’t just your regular run-of-the-mill giant lizard thingies.

RE: The Darkside Chronicles goes Tofu mental with western outfits

redarkside

Capcom has announced that tofu mode is back in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles as an unlockable in the game.

However, this time, instead of taking on the character of tofu, you now shoot the tofu into bits. Yummy.

There are also new costumes. For instance, you can dress Claire as a cowgirl, like in the pic shown above, or as a “biker” with ample cleavage. Oh you can dress Leon up too, but what’s the fun in that?

We have the rest posted below the break along with the videos for tofu and the outfits.

The game is out next week on November 17 along with everything else.

Heavy Rain producer weighs in on MW2 controversy

heavyrain

Quantic Dream’s Guillaume de Fondaumiere has told MTV that the controversial airport scene in Modern Warfare 2 should not be treated any different than scenes from a movie.

“My take on it is very simple. I don’t see any reason why video games should be treated differently than movies, for instance,” he told MTV. “I think that we should leave game creators free of expressing their vision as they see fit. I think the guys at Infinity Ward had something very precise in mind when they did this scene.

“The real danger for me is, when you put out such a scene out of context. I can take any movie and take a sequence and make up a story and it will look like something that’s amoral or that crosses the line. This is most of the time what happens in video games [in the media].”
