Kitase: No DLC for FFXIII Japanese Launch

ffxiii

Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that there will be no DLC for the Japanese release of Final Fantasy XIII on December 17, with a decision yet to be made on the overseas version of the game.

Back in August during GamesCom, the FFXIII producer said that non-story related DLC could be coming. Now though, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Unfortunately, it has been decided that no DL contents will be available for the Japanese version due out in December, while no decision has been made for the overseas versions.”

Sad face. The game got a Western release on Friday: Tuesday March 9 2010.

Thanks, CVG.

Houser: Games are an “easy enemy”

gtaiv20

Speaking in a interview with The Times, Rockstar co-president has said that games are “a popular and easy enemy.”

It comes as the latest media criticism is aimed squarely at Modern Warfare 2 for it’s airport level.

“Look, video games are a popular and easy enemy. It’s all part and parcel of doing something that’s not been done before. One of the things that’s always been exciting is the feeling of being in at the birth of a new medium, but of course the history of technology-driven art from the printing press onwards has been of people fighting against that stuff,” revealed Houser.

“It feels at last like we’re moving on from that debate. The audience is getting past 30 so it all becomes a bit silly. That’s not to say that all games are for all people; we’ve never said that. GTA has always been rated 18 and we’ve always been very happy with that.”

In the same interview, Houser talked about GTA V a bit. Lovely.

Russia recalls Modern Warfare 2 from shelves

modernwarfare210

Uh-oh.

Russia has recalled all copies of Modern Warfare 2, thanks to the inclusion of the airport level in the game.

Infinity Ward has patched the PC version in the country to get rid of the level completely, with an edited retail version due for release in stores shortly.

Thats not all though, nuh-uh. Russian gamers aren’t pleased that the game’s centric plot revolves around a US/Russian war.

Amazing stuff, innit.

The move, which is only being done in stores within New Jersey, was signed off by corporate.

Resident Evil director still working on Castlevania, eying Metal Gear movie, too

mgs11

According to a post on ShockTillYouDrop, Resident Evil movie director Paul W.S. Anderson is still cracking the whip on the Castlevania movie. Or at least, he’s trying to. Apparently, directing a movie’s a bit of a stretch without a script, or so we’ve heard.

“Producer Jeremy Bolt told us this morning that Paul W.S. Anderson is still circling video game adaptation Castlevania at Rogue Pictures and that they are waiting on a script,” said the site.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s also expressed interest in helping Solid Snake infiltrate the big screen. If “directing” in this case means “letting David Hayter write the script, choreograph all the scenes, choose the cast, and play Solid Snake,” then we’re cool with this.

How about you?

OnLive live on cell phones, says OnLive boss

onlive31

Well, not live in the “everyone can play it right now” sense, but we couldn’t resist the headline. Sorry. Our bad.

Anyway, during a Wedbush financial conference, CEO Steve Perlman dialed up interest in OnLive to stratospheric levels by explaining that the streaming software also runs on cell phones.

“Today, at a Wedbush financial conference in New York I showed OnLive running simultaneously on 2 iPhones, a TV, and a computer. What is really cool is that all 4 devices had access to the full OnLive Game Service, so they could play the same games, spectate on each other’s (and Beta users’) game play, watch Brag Clips, check out Gamer Profiles, etc,” he wrote on the OnLive blog.

“That said, it’s important to understand that a cell phone is a very different beast than TV, PC or Mac. And while we’re thrilled about eventually bringing many new games to cell phone platforms, currently, games on OnLive are tuned for TVs and computers. So initially, it’s the Community and Social elements of OnLive that we’re most excited about on mobile devices,” he added.

That’s a good start, Mr. Pearlman, but we gamers are a notoriously greedy bunch. Give us Crysis on our graphing calculators, Dreamcast VMUs, and Etch-and-Sketches. Then we might be impressed. Maybe.

Rumor: Modern Warfare 2′s “Ghost” to get his own game?

codcomiccover

When it’s your job to blabber into a microphone for hours on end, sometimes, keeping your tongue in check isn’t the easiest thing to do. Case in point: voice actor Craig Fairbrass blurted the news that some form of game starring Modern Warfare 2′s resident badass “Ghost” is in development.

“I did in the last game a voice for a character called Gaz and in this game I’m now voicing a guy called Ghost, who now just got a spin-off comic of his own and they’re talking about another little game to go with it. So I’m quite excited about it. It’s grown and grown and grown,” Fairbrass said during Modern Warfare 2′s UK launch event.

Modern Warfare 2: Ghost, huh? Didn’t Activision Blizzard used to have another one of those?

Thanks, That VideoGame Blog.

New Alan Wake footage is GO!

alanwake2

GT has live some new footage of Alan Wake, which shows him trying to out-run the cops.

It does look good, which is why you need to see it after the jump. It’s an extended version of the footage shown the other day on GTTV.

They also have a full playthrough of the level that writer Sam Lake was talking about back in August. That is also after the jump.

The game is out in spring 2010 – possibly May – for the Xbox 360. PC version is MIA.

Rockstar on GTA V: We need to think of characters and the city first

gtaiv54

Speaking in a interview with The Times, Rockstar co-president Dan Houser has admitted that they would need to think of the main location and the main characters for Grand Theft Auto V before it goes into pre-development.

It’s really the first we’ve heard of any kinds of development work in GTA V, although a location for the game was teased in the manual for stand-alone DLC disc Episodes from Liberty City.

“We’ll think of a city first, then the characters,” admitted Houser.

Houser also spoke out on the controversy overshadowing the initial banning of Manhunt 2 in the UK, before it was lifted in March last year.

“Manhunt 2 was not a good situation. When a game gets banned, it means we’re not doing our first job, of making the investors back their money.”
