Miyamoto: Mario Galaxy 2 is going to be a “really challenging” game

mariogalaxy2

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has said in an interview with ONM that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be a “really challenging” game.

He also admitted that he isn’t sure the Super Guide from New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be in the game.

As far as the challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is concerned, I think it’s going to be a really challenging game, but whether or not we are going to incorporate the Super Guide, I just cannot tell.

“In general, wherever and whenever appropriate, I think we will want to incorporate that kind of thing, but I cannot commit to anything specific right now,” said Miyamoto.

Galaxy 2 is out in 2010.

SingStar patch on the way to fix problems, Paul McCartney pack incoming

singstarps35

SCEE has confirmed that a new patch is in the works for SingStar, after some massive bugs for the game were found following the release of update 4.2.

“As soon as we were aware of these issues, the senior SingStar development team came together and have been working flat out to fix these issues with the aim of getting a patch out as soon as possible,” said SingStar director Dave Ranyard, speaking on the EU PS Blog.

“Due to the severity of these bugs there was a very real possibility of a “quick fix” actually making these problems worse and that is why we have opted instead for a very thorough development and QA test process to ensure that the problems that you are experiencing are resolved.”

However, Ranyard did promise that the soonest we would see a patch is early December.

Meanwhile, GAF has uncovered evidence that a track pack involving Sir Paul McCartney is on the way. This could tie in with the upcoming release of his live DVD/CD “Good Evening New York City”.

Then again, if you don’t care for the solo stuff, and have Beatles: Rock Band, buy Sgt. Pepper tomorrow.

Pitchford: Crytek, id not prepared for “the longest console generation”

randypitchfords

Speaking with OXM, Gearbox head Randy Pitchford has had a pop at Crytek and id software, stating they aren’t prepared for what Pitchford has called “the longest console generation we’ve seen.”

Anyone that built their strategies around the last generation timing, and is trying to employ those strategies today, is either being forced to adapt very quickly or is risking failure,” said Pitchford.

Some people have invested a lot going to a place that’s too far, and the customers aren’t ready for that yet because they don’t have the hardware for it. And so they can’t find the market. I was thinking of Crytek, they couldn’t find a market because they made a game [Crysis] that very few people could play. I’m not putting words in their mouth, I remember reading something publically where they said they couldn’t put this on consoles because of the hardware…

It’s not just Crytek who misjudged it. We see the id guys talking continuously about this, [with Rage] – ‘well, Sony will have a Blu-Ray and I don’t know what we’ll do on the 360, maybe we’ll have three DVD’s… if the publisher will let us do that, maybe we’ll errrrahh I dunno.’ Because they’re in this kind of “generation plus” mode, and like nobody knows what the generation beyond this one is going to look like.”

BioWare bossman Ray Muzyka has hinted in an interview with Videogamer that co-op could become a feature for future Mass Effect/Dragon Age games.

“Sure, we would consider it. We haven’t announced anything on that front yet, but those are interesting ideas. They could make a great gameplay experience. Whether we’ll do them or not remains to be decided.

“We’ve done it, and we’re doing it again now in Star Wars: The Old Republic. But it is challenging,” revealed Muzkya.

Ruffian: Today’s most successful games have “persistence of life”

ruffian

Speaking at the NEoN event in Dundee, Ruffian Games has stated how important Crackdown 2′s online is, and how it needs to be able to “keep your disc in people’s disc drive.”

“If you’re doing that you’re onto a winner. We play games online, and we want to bring that element of quick skirmish action. We always thought Crackdown was perfect for online and always wanted to do it like this,” said Ruffian producer James Cope.

The company also confirmed it will work on Crackdown 2 after it’s release next year.

“As a company, we’ve got a really strong belief in staying as a single project company. We feel that enables us to make the best games possible.

“We’re not putting people with really great skills in the position of having to manage multiple things. You always get that situation where one game, one project, becomes more important than the other and you dilute your key staff across that. We want to stay incredibly focused on making really great core action games. That’s where the future of the company is.”

Muzyka: No nudity in DAO was an “artistic choice”

BioWare’s CEO Ray Muzyka has revealed to Videogamer that the reason there was no nudity in Dragon Age: Origins was down to an “artistic choice”.

“It’s an artistic choice by the development team.

“We don’t constrain what they do. We don’t strive for gratuitous content. But we also ask the teams to choose a direction and then run with it. That was their choice. That’s how they wanted to depict the romantic liaisons in the game, so that’s what we did,” said Muzyka.

Shame. Game’s out now for the 360 and PC. It’s out on Friday in Europe for the PS3.

Mario VO: I wanted to be Link

zeldaartmain

Speaking in an interview with TGS, the voiceover for Mario, Charles Martinet, has said he wanted to voice Link in a Legend of Zelda game, but was refused by Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto.

“I spoke to Mr. Miyamoto and said: “I wanna be Link, I wanna be Link”, and Miyamoto told me that Link isn’t going to have a voice; he is going to stay the way he is,” said Martinet.

“Of course Mr. Miyamoto is always right! The way it works right now is the way it is supposed to be. It’s the genius of Miyamoto and he knows just the right formula for making his games more fun and more exciting. For example in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, If things slowed down for Mario to express his inner feelings it just wouldn’t work and this way it keeps our hearts pounding with enthusiasm.”

There you have it. Stick at Mario. Find the full interview through the link.
