Rumour – Spotify coming to consoles

Spotify

Chalk up as a rumour for now.

Baxy-Z are reporting that music service Spotify could be seeing a release for the consoles.

An “insider” told the site that it is working on bringing the service to “next-gen consoles”, which obviously means PS3, 360 and Wii.

“We’ve been working on it for some time now and we can’t wait to reveal it to you guys!,” said the insider.

Again, take with a pinch of salt.

If thats the case, there is no point in Last.fm for the 360. Especially as Spotify can scrobble. The only thing would be if the 360 version would also support Last fm.

I love Spotify. Can’t imagine why I’d want it on my console though, much like Last.FM.

@blerk – I suspect for a lot of people – like me – it’s convenience. Last.Fm is a godsend on the 360 ( I barely use it for much else these days ) as I can have my last.fm playlists through my proper hi-fi setup in the living room rather than having to faff around connecting my lappy to it.

I love Spotify as well ( I subscribe actually, because of the premium android app which is rather good ) but I use last.fm just as much because it throws music at me that I haven’t heard before. I then follow that up on Spotify by listening to more of the specific artist’s music that I liked on Last.fm.

In some ways it’s a perfect match. I really hope the rumour is true. Could well see the end of my CD and MP3 collection. :)

At what point do we start to see the words “next-gen consoles” as leaked hints at the NEXT gen, instead of the current? :D

I’ve realised that I don’t have the slightest clue what this is… same goes for Last FM. I know they have something to do with music but that’s about the limit of it. :P

Spotify is a decent idea but I find it of limited use. It needs to have albums on it before their general release or it’s useless. I’ll just pirate a leaked version and decide if it’s worth the money that way.

Spotify is great – just need an app now for the blackberry! But using it on my PC, I noticed just how much bandwith it can use – OUCH!!

Spotify free uses Vorbis 160kbs (vbr) so it can potentially require as much as maybe 180kbs from your connection for the music alone, then you’ve got the client activity like ad-serving and server communication on top of that. So it can hoard quite a bit of bandwidth.
