Microsoft: “No plans” to move Rare from Twycross
A story claiming Rare’s to move from Twycross to Birmingham is wrong, Microsoft’s confirmed to VG247.
“Rare have got no plans to move from their Twycross studio,” a rep told us on the phone, adding that the story is “incorrect”.
Talk of the UK outfit moving north originated in The Birmingham Post, which claimed the studio will move into the re-developed Fazeley Studios in the city’s former industrial centre.
So there we are.

The new office in question is extra space required for Project NATAL (which is where the link with RARE probably comes from). In particular the space required for testing it – seeing as NATAL uses motion and movement it actually requires more physical space per-tester than conventional stuff.

Would be a real shame if they did have to leave, the studio must be a joy to go work at when compared to a standard office building.

If I am reading it right, the original story in the Birmingham Post only says that Rare will “take the last remaining units at Digbeth’s Fazeley Studios”, presumably as a bit of extra office space, it doesn’t talk about Rare relocating there or leaving Twycross.

I’d imagine that is the most plausabile case, the testing lab as it is will not facilitate NATAL testing at all.
Still it’ll be a shame to not have tester and devs in the same building, mostly because the environment at Twycross is amazing.
