Sony has said that more than 500 comics will be made available at launch when the PSP Comic Store goes live in December.

Big names like Marvel, 2000AD and IDW have signed on so far along with Insomnia, iVerse and Titan.

At least with digital comics, you don’t have to worry about keeping them safe in mylar sleeves.

More through Eurogamer.

I wish there was something (legal) like this for pc. Of course the publishing houses probaly feel more secure about psp drm, although how justified that feeling is is highly debatable.

DC don’t have any form of digital delivery for their content set up yet. They notably lag behind Marvel and other publishers in this regard. If the content doesn’t exist it simply can’t be distributed – irrespective of the device being asked to do it.

I question the whole practicality of this venture though as trying to view content typically designed in a portrait layout through a wide-screen landscape screen doesn’t sound like a comfy fit to me.

Still, it’s another bullet-point in Sony’s feature list and there’s a serious overlap between gamers and comic-book fans. Smart idea if it works out.

@3, presumably you’ll have to zoom in and out anyway so it probably won’t matter.

DC simply haven’t signed up yet because they haven’t decided that they want to step into the digital market yet, which may be a costly mistake for them if the PSN digital comics take off.

As far as how well it works on the PSP? I suggest if you own a PSP you update it to firmware 6.20 and try it out for yourself if you in one of the launch countries. The store isn’t up until December, but IDW Publishing have teamed up with Sony and there are codes for four free comics floating around.

The system Sony has designed it very good and it letsfor the publisher either direct you though the panels how they see works best with AutoFlow, or you can move around manually. Works extremely well, and personally, from what I have seen, if there is any sort of action in the comic, then these PSN Digital Comics blow a normal paper version out of the water in terms of actually giving you a sense of action thanks to the tools Sony have provided the publishers.

I have to say; I really dont care about Marvel, most of their stuff it terrible.
Not that everything DC’s got is good but Marvel ‘out lames’ them by far.

Failure of the video store? And what are you basing this off exactly?
