Natal could replace remote control, says MS
Natal could replace remote control, according to comments made by Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten.
Speaking at the Streaming Media West show, Whitten described the increasing number of 360′s video applications as the “biggest surprise” of his job.
“With the flick of my wrist I can change a channel,” Whitten said. “With the power of my voice I can start a movie.”
He added: “I don’t believe we are currently in the golden age of the television or the golden age of the game console or the golden age of the Internet; frankly, five years from now I don’t know that you’ll be able to tell the difference between those worlds.”
Natal expected at the end of next year. First contact should happen in 2011. More on GI.

Lol, you now have to watch movies in silence and perfectly still incase you accidentally change channel or turn on commentary modes.

So true. I’ll believe it when I see it working.

@Hunam: Actually… that would be great. It might keep the missus from talking, then asking “what happened then” followed by “what did he just say” two seconds afterwards. =/

it would be very cool if five years from now we can have a tv with natal/equivalent in the tv, it would come with a wireless joypad. the tv would connect to your wireless broadband, and all your video rentals and games would be bought and viewed/played over the broadband connects.
This is the ideal, all in one, and why not, the faster we can reach this point the better
And i wouldn’t be surprised if ‘apple’ makes it, it’ll be called the ‘iTele’….i’m gonna go buy the domain now!

Well, it’s definately something TV makers are prototyping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt60r3AwuV8 With these new LED TVs that have Twitter, Youtube and other services, who knows what will happen next.

They’ve already made a tv you control with hand movements if I recall.
Why would you want a console add on to do that for you?
Would cause a problem for fast hand movements though. Like sneezing.

I rather pick up gently a remote control, and gently press the button..
what if I sit far away from natal and TV? why if I do not want to wave my arms up and down just to pause and rewind? who the fuck wants to do all this shit.. its just extra hustle to watch a movie…
Im sticking to my 20 dollar xbox remote!

I see they’re putting a lot of effort into the pre-release hype machine.
How about stop telling us what it “could” or “might” be able to do and show us the damn thing working in a real tangiable useful manner, hmm?

I agree with ‘Nox’. It just seems so pointless. I don’t think they understand that most of the time u go to watch TV, play games etc to relax and unwind. Who the hell wants to start waving arms about to increase volume or change channel.
When they perfect doing all this using just the power of the mind then get back to me otherwise it’s all just gimmicky nonsense.

Dunno, why Molyneux needs virtual boys. Judging peoples affection for him on here, he’s groomed plenty of real ones.
