Gearbox is aware of players being “disappointed” with Borderlands’ ending.

Borderlands’ senior designer, Paul Helquist, has told MTV that the developers are aware that some players were disappointed with the ending of the game.

“We went through lots of different iterations on what the ending of the game was,” said Helquist. “”We ultimately ended up with what you get to play. We didn’t know how people were going to react to it. Obviously the reaction hasn’t been as strong as we had hoped [laughs].

“That’s something we’re going to be keeping in mind as we do new things, whether it’s download content or other games in the future.”

Helquist added that next time the studio plans on requesting more feedback prior a game’s release.

There’s more through the link, but beware of spoilers.

  1. Can always do a Broken Steel.

“Shit ending? pay £6-8 for a better one!”

I think this is what they will be doing. THats the issue with DLC. SHitty game pay an extra 10$ to make it that much better. Unfinished crapped out ending well pay 10$ for that too. And its not “Some” Paul, its the majority of those that played the game. All the reviews I have read have all said the same thing, Very disappointing ending.

really?? Wow.. I’ve beaten the game twice and can’t even tell you the ending. There was a story??? :)

I have to admit to being disappointed myself. All that hype over the vault then …… I won’t spoil it in case someone hasn’t finished it yet. I’m also really annoyed with their handling of split screen. They need to patch in the option to switch between vertical and horizontal and to scale menus to fit someone’s screen when doing split screen.

Haven’t finished MW2 and not borderlands level 20 atm.
I wonder can it be any worse than MW2 ending.

Good enough game overall including spec ops but man that ending sucked.

  6. Mauller said:

    MW2’s ending was definitely meh.

  7. Gekidami said:

I thought MW2’s ending sequence was probably the best part of the game.
The zodiac chase was rather eventless and abit boring though.

  8. Bulk Slash said:

Is the ending bad enough that I should consider not buying the game? I’ve not bought it yet and I’m thinking I might not bother now.

  9. MushroomStamp said:

NOT AT ALL!… The game is definitely worth it. It’s really not that story driven.. it’s really about the Loot man.

  10. Bulk Slash said:

Thanks! I’ll try and grab it at some point once I’ve finished Assassin’s Creed II…

What Mushroom says and by far the best coop as long as you have someone you like to play with don’t play with stranger there is no loot sharing system so some idiot can jack the weapon you are proficient in and that person not be. Have had that happen twice so I play with people I know and trust. By far this what Fallout should have been imo

  12. Leathersoup said:

Hehe perhaps Pitchford should have spent more time making sure the game ended properly and less time criticizing Valve :P

  13. Mauller said:

The game is definitely worth the purchase. It’s great fun and there’s lots to do. Do yourself a favour and grab it.

I thought the shitty ending was a big “fuck you” to anyone who plays games for the story rather than the gameplay. Want a good ending? Read a fucking book. I’d rather have INFINITE GUNS and INFINITE ENEMIES TO SHOOT, thank you very much.

  17. mojo said:

sorry, but if ur into story drive games borderlands is anyway not yours..
If have massive fun with the game and dont even know what those stupid robots are for..
I skip ever text, looking for INFINITE ENIMIES TO SHOOT!
    your wellcome :D

  18. Phoenixblight said:

THats why I stay the hell away from MW2, Halo series because their method for making games are more shooting less story. If Gear box didn’t want to place a story they should have removed it entirely imo and just gone the MMO route. But they placed a story in it and it was a huge fuck you to anyone that wants to enjoy a story while playing a great game. Thats why it will only get one playthrough with me.

  19. Not to mention I get better drops from a normal enemy rather than a Boss. Boss-fights are unrewarding specially the last one.
