Lewis: “No one can touch” Live development
Euro 360 boss Chris Lewis is in the zone. The Live zone. Can you toe-step his Live shit? No, you cannot.
“No one can touch us in terms of developing that service, completely reinventing that service in the way that we did last year with the New Xbox Experience update last November,” he told GI.
Microsoft’s focus on software and services this console gen is its own direction, Lewis added: “That was not predicated upon a new piece of hardware. We’re able to deliver that kind of innovation via our Xbox 360 service without troubling the consumer in any way.”
Do not fuck with Xbox Live. Hit the link while you’re not doing that.

shroom – so the only thing that’s better is the cross game chat?
seems like the only thing you 360 fans keep bringing up…

well at least I can share my games with 5 of my friends anytime I want. I don’t have to buy DL DVD+R disc and risk sharing that way
Stop comparing grocery store fruit with the Garden of Eden fruit.
(yea it was a bad analogy so what sue me)

Aha! 24 hours. That’s a day at a time. Happened more than once – days. Never happened to PSN. So there.

“stop comparing bananas to oranges”. FINE. If YOU stop comparing AUBERGINES to CHESTNUTS. Because that’s not RIGHT DAMMIT!

What we have is a stable service that led the way. I love my achievements, i love the marketplace, I love the friends list and all of its features (what they are playing, their achievements, scores, etc), I love that everyone has a mic.
Ya psn is slowly getting these features, but xbox live just has the standard already there in place and it works. When I want to get a game to play online, its hands down on xbox live.

Brilliant argument this.

Hopefully soon you’ll be able to happy in the fact that I’m happy and I reckon then we’ll all be pretty happy.

Google “PSN offline”. Seems like it has gone down before? The only difference is that the games are tied to xbox live. I have not met one person who hates using xbox live for the very rare day that it comes offline. What once a year?

PSN store goes offline..playing games don’t…which is the most important aspect of it all.

If you are going to quote, please do it accurately.
“been down for days at a time” Key word there: “DAYS”, not day. I asked when it has been down for days at a time, not how many days in its been down over its 4 years of life.

You are right theevilaires. That one rare day in a year in which the service is down sucks. But his comment was “Never happened to PSN.”. Which was not true.

SOny has commented this was not their intention and it may be on the way of blocking and doing what XBox does. Which is locks to your HD. SO yeah you can do that NOW but that may not be in the future.

“Google “PSN offline”.”
Yep, got some times where PSN was down for scheduled maintenance, for a couple of hours. Not the DAYS when XBL caved in for, as you put it, 24 hours unscheduled death.

Which service is better, a free service with scheduled maintenance for a few hours, OR a paid for service with scheduled maintenance for a few hours AND full days unscheduled downtime?
Hmm tough call.

I am still waiting for links to these days where it went down unscheduled. Like I said, I have been playing it since its launch on the first xbox and cant recall not being able to access the service without remembering it was down for the day for SCHEDULED maintenance. Clearly, it is not an issue.

In my case I’m paying money for the privilege of being able to play beat ‘em ups online, which I love, it just so happens 360 appears to be my console of choice this generation… I won’t be playing SF on a PS D-Pad anytime soon, maybe that’s just me…

Oh. That’s alright then. Thought I might have been going a bit too far with my arguments there.
But people, Scyrenn, no, we shouldn’t be paying for this stuff. Seriously. On the Wii, PS3, on the PC, it’s all free – and the platform holders make a LOT of money, without subscriptions. They don’t need any more. That’s all I’m saying.

Cort is still upset he tried to insult me and failed.
You win, you mentioned a time it was down without scheduled maintenance. I can’t say this example is worth mentioning in a debate of xbox live vs psn. Every game that has ever came out on PC with massive amount of players has had shaky starts.
This one case was bad timing since it happened with staff on vacation.

I really don’t think anyone should tell any company what they can and can’t earn and what they should/shouldn’t charge for…that’s fascism.

@Mike, I imagine there are a few people who wanted a console when the 360 was the only “seventh gen” hardware available for some time. As we all know, it’s easy to get locked in to one console – it becomes familiar, and it is home to your friends list, trophies/achievements and game saves which are built up over time.
And it’s not as if there is any alternative to Live on 360 or PSN on PS3.

I am a fanboy for defending xbox live? You people are pathetic. I am a fan of games, I get every platform. And yes, I enjoy the 360 over the other platforms sitting in my game room. It simply does the job to my satisfaction.
You guys came to a xbox topic to talk trash about it. That is the act of ‘fan boys’. I am going to walk away, this isnt even on topic anymore. People like Cort on nerd rages ruin debates.

Fanboys often to react to other people undermining their format of choice simply because you take a critical observation of their own preferences.
You’re just a victim of other people’s ignorance.

I wasn’t aware that this was such a big issue really. PS3 has a great menu that is easy to navigate and clutter free, 360 has decent online play with it’s nice of the shelf api’s and party/chat functions and getting into games quickly with your mate. Steam has good in game chat, a working server browser and a decent community section.
Everyone is happy

No, no, no. Everyone is not happy.
Not when people are paying for – in some ways – an inferior service. No. Fuck that.
Not when we are told it is acceptable to have ads pushed in our faces.
No.
Fuck that.
And then pay for that as well?
No. Fuck that.
Before it all becomes standard… Fuck that.

Aside from my own rampant fanboyism and frequent driveby passive-aggressive trolling, #9 reads as some of the most blatant fanboy wittering in a long time.
To come out with that sort of gibberish and then start pouting when fanboy labels are assigned shows spectacular insularity.

But you get better pings, smoother online games, parties, decent voice chat, cross game chat, unified friends list and quick joining of friends games and a cool little gameshow all for your £30~ a year.
I can agree with you on the adverts though, it is a little cheeky considering. But the actual meat and bones of the service you are paying for, online gaming, is better than PSN, or at least in my experience.

“@81″ You could at least refer to my name, you disrespectful little git!
Anyway pings, smoother games, yeah not convinced by that to be honest.. Depends on the game I guess but on PSN I never had any problems on Warhawk or COD 4 or what have you..
The other advantages yeah fair enough for now, but again they’re on Steam as well, and yep it’s free.. Again, all these other platforms are making money without subscription, and –
“a cool little gameshow ”
Gah! You can’t be serious!

Again.. No they are not.. None of them have the cross game chat and instant info on friends within a game. The ability to instantly join a game a friend is playing with ONE BUTTON (the X)…. You keep saying others do the same.. but they do not.
Clearly to many, the simplicity it takes to execute these functions is worth the money.

I’ve not played the same game on both systems to really test it, but Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Online seem more laggy than Halo and Gears to me, but I guess it’s just anecdotal evidence on my part.
The gameshow is cool, in that it’s a nice little thing so folks and their friends can meet up weekly online for a chat and light gaming that doesn’t get in the way of the conversation. Playing it on your lonesome is pretty awful, but it’s better than Home at least

Cross game chat and joining peoples games arent really apart of Live per se though, they’re apart of the 360′s firmware.
I guess you could go with the fact that Live is smoother but just coming out of UC2 on PS3 and straight into MW2 on 360 i cant say theres really that much of a difference in terms of lag and ping.
