Far Cry 3 development looking “pretty exciting”

According to Ubisoft scriptwriter Kevin Shortt, work is progressing on Far Cry 3 despite his absence this time around.
When asked by OPM if he were working on the title he replied that he wasn’t but “I know the team are and what I’ve seen looks pretty exciting”.
The game was pretty much confirmed during Gamescom 2008 when Patrick Redding revealed that Ubi Montreal was working on the “preliminary stages” with the “next game” in the series, and that the team has a “commitment to the African setting.”
Looks like it’s back to the jungle with us.

Never did get on with Far Cry 2, just annoying getting from place to place and the missions lacked variety.
Needs less open world and more intense gun fights.

You’re one of the good people, Mr. Garratt. Hope they don’t listen to the detractors too much.

FC2 was good but i hated how everyone dropped everything to run you down all the god damn time. is friendly AI really so hard to program?

I actually enjoyed the AI. I loved the firefights. I properly finished FC2, and I never got bored. There were some proper stand-out moments in it, and the weapons were perfect. To be honest, thinking about it makes me want to go back, and that’s rare for me.
Also, the setting and engine were just amazing. Nothing else I’ve ever played sucked me in like that. I was sad when it finished. One of my favourite games this gen.

@Jadeskye
They had friendly AI, well, non-hostile AI, in the towns. And your buddies helped you and fought alongside you sometimes. So, no, it wasn’t a problem with programming friendly AI. The problem was you were in a HOSTILE FUCKING WARZONE OF A SHITHEAP OF A FAILED STATE GOT IT? That is all.

well i get that. they explained it very thoroughly before each mission. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t wearing on me.

FC2 is one of my favourite games of all time. The most immersive game, most tense game, most emergent gameplay, most beautiful, most intelligent storyline, most meaningful, most believable world, most naturalistic dialogue.
Just hope they don’t fuck it all up in the sequel.

It’s like you guys are speaking of some alien game that wasn’t released on this planet.
Do not get.
Enjoy your sequel though

That did make me chuckle BTW, I was too busy trying to be witty myself to acknowledge it

Sorry, I was watching The Dark Knight on blu ray
I wasn’t being sarcastic, it’s just a game I could just never understand why people like it, I have the same thing with COD games, I know everyone loves them and I’ve played a fair bunch of them, but I just don’t get WHY people are enjoying them as I can’t! But I don’t grudge people liking games I can’t, I just want everyone to be happy
Then again I adore the Silent Hill (did, anyway) games and Harvest Moon games and hardcore RPG’s when most people don’t really get that deep into them. Horses for courses and all that.
It does bug me though. I played Bioshock 3 times trying to find that magic. On paper it’s the most perfect game for me but in practice, nope, nothing. I MUST FIND THE MAGIC.

We all have to find the magic, man. All have to find the magic. I.. I don’t know why you can’t find it in FC2.. Must be something…something about you, man..

One of the most innovative FPSes of recent years. Guard posts respawned too quickly, and there were too many mountainous areas which funneled you down specific paths, but firefights were dynamic and exciting, AI was generally excellent, and the atmosphere was incredible.
On one occasion I drove a vehicle towards an enemy camp, leaped out while it was still moving, then backed away a few feet and remote detonated the bomb in the back, sending five men to their deaths, two of which flew over my head with the explosion. I’ve rarely had a gaming moment quite so thrillingly satisfying.

The silent weapons were just awesome. I did some of the big missions just with the dart gun. I know someone who’ll laugh at me for saying this, but the “sense of place” in FC2 was genuinely unique. I’ve never played anything else like it.

Missions were abit to repetitive in FC2 and getting around was a pain to say the least; Not only was moving around just to long but the fact that EVERYTHING was out to get you didnt help. Also the over all plot was just lame.
On a side note did they ever patch in those predatory animals?

I don’t mean to be moaning here I loved the first Far Cry but couldn’t get into Far Cry 2. Like Geki said… Missions are repetitive, the map was huge it took ages driving from here and then finding out you have to go all the way back to the other side of the map, I can live with those 2 minor problems I had with the game… what I really hated was the fact that all the camps/borders respawned badguys far too quickly.
The scenery was awesome though, wish there were more wild beasties running aound. What I especially loved were the baobab trees, reminds me so much of Zimbabwe. *tearsup*

Good game, but GOD DAMMIT driving everywhere like a chump was a pain in the ass. Bus stops were miles between as well… Still, the silenced shotgun rocked.

They never put in the animals, nope.
I loved the moving around stuff, because I really liked the setting. I honestly didn’t get bored of it. I liked the fact that every roadblock was another chance to take out a bunch of guys.

I’m with the good book ppl on this!
Fantastic game which really gave a sense of place like Pat mentioned. Felt like a proper ‘world’ you were living in. It was all silenced sniper rifles and fire for me.
More will be magnificent…

I’ve played most FPS’s and this was one of the very that I can’t bring myself to finish. I keep going back to it every few months hoping that I’ll find it ‘different’ this time but then I come up against the same things that piss me off on each play – respawning guard posts, random drive-by assaults, way too much territory to cover and a story too rambling and unfocused that I can’t be bothered with it.
I loved the first one and played Instincts through too but this just left me cold.

To me FC2 was one big dissapointment. However I did love the first and i’m hoping the third will be a mix of the good stuff with from first and the second.
I didn’t mind the FC2 being open ended but they seriously need to add a quick time travel option or make driving between missions more fun by not having road blocks every 50 meter or so in the third.
I want the tropical setting back though or something more colorful, African one while unique looked so damn brown. I almost got depressed when I played lol.
Then again I never managed to play my way to the second map because I got so bored with all the driving and road blocks.

i loved Far Cry 2 and have it installed now for the occasional bloody romp, my main issue was the insane AI trying to kill you as soon as look at you, it killed the atmosphere in my mind
i’m hoping Far Cry 3 will right the wrongs of of Far Cry 2 in much the same way as Assassins Creed 2 has for Assassins Creed

@ppl moaning bobut the travelling and respawing checkpoints.
You do realise you don’t just have to travel by car/jeep etc…?
I spent a large chunk of my time travelling using the boats as they traversed the maps really quickly and you also avoided the roadblocks (not that I minded them anyway).
Also just drive cross-country and avoid the roads and as such roadblocks.
Easy see…

Being from Africa, it was a really cool surprise to hear the dudes swearing in Afrikaans and just to see the surroundings – they did a brilliant job of capturing the bushveld. It was like being on a winter holiday playing the game
Can’t wait to see what FC3 is going to be like – going to put the money away now to buy the game when it comes out.
