Ok, so the PS2 costs $99 in the US, and Sony (for whatever reason has officially decided to launch for this absurd price tag of $445) however the ps2 has been sold in Brazil long before Sony’s release because of legal importation. the current price range in Brazil for a ps2 is R$ 400-500 $220-280.

The (PS3 slim 120gb) and the (XBOX 360 60gb +2 games) are sold for respective prices of R$1700 ($950) and R$1800 ($1000)
(you can find it a bit lower in a couple of places, but that is the price of a lot of stores)

The games are all priced around R$229 – $127 and when they are priced down, like for example assassin’s creed, here you still have to pay $80 for it.

Who’s fault is this? The companies, the retailers and the government.

The truth is, when it comes down to it, if you pay this much for a console, you feel, as a consumer, that you have a right to play games on it without having to pay more for the software themselves.

If you think that the average attach rate for a console is about 5-9 games per player, and you see that for a PlayStation 3 the consumer pays $950 for just the console alone, that’s over $600 the US price, which would allow the player to buy at least 10 games on day of release (above the average that gamers normally buy) then you start to understand the situation at hand.

Here in Brazil for example, the launch of the PS3 Slim that was accompanied by a decrease of a $100 in price in the US, actually saw a price INCREASE of $280 in 2 of the major online sellers AND this remains with older models still being cheaper than the slim.

Any word on XBOX1 or Gamecube being sold there too…ooops

Nah they didnt want to confuse them so just left it simple with a simple console.
Maybe when they get used to gaming they can step it up a gear with a real gaming machine.
