Report: LA Times says Activision has third team working on CoD

According to a report from the L.A. Times, Activison has a third team working on the Call of Duty series, but fails to mention which studio has been handed the task or what it entails.
Apparently, Infinity Ward and Treyarch just aren’t enough.
As Activision seems to be discovering this year with Guitar Hero, there’s danger when a title is overexposed with too many iterations. Nonetheless, the publisher has aggressive expansion plans for Call of Duty. Although Infinity Ward and Treyarch have produced sequels in alternating years since 2005, the publisher now has a third development studio working on future versions.
Over on Kotaku, the site reminds us that CEO Bobby Kotick has “publicly expressed this thoughts on a massively-multiplayer online take on the series” and how CFO Tom Tippl says the company is looking into “additional online monetization models” for the franchise – so it could be anything, really.
The site also mentions that n-Space works on the portable versions and Certain Affinity helps out with Treyarch’s multiplayer maps. Then there’s studios Raven, High Moon, and the newly formed Sledgehammer, which all have experience with FPS games.
So again, it could be any one of these, or a new studio entirely.
We’ll send a mail off to Activision and see if anyone gets back with us.
Thanks, GoNintendo.

I want CoD In Space. Will they do CoD In Space?
CoD In Space would be cool. Just as long as I get to fly a Space Shuttle.

If they milk the series too much with 3rd party developed games of poorer quality then they’re going to risk buyer apathy, which may start to hurt IW developed game sales in the long run.

With the record breaking success of MW2, isn’t this the equivalent of an insult to Infinity Ward..?

Disagree totally.. War games from here on out should only be Modern or Future… The boring past has been done to death.

Well it seems that Treyarch were apparently looking for Vietnamese and Cuban music so its probably happening. Dont know why so many so many people want it though, it was hardly as epic a war as WWII in terms of battles (and Cuban music? Were their any battles at all?) and you could argue that it wasnt exactly a ‘call of duty’ to…

Except COD series never did a Vietnam. They’ve got 4 WW2 games, and now 2 modern games. It’d make sense for them to cash in and leave their mark.
As to the “call of duty” remark in last post, war is war man. I don’t care how politicans care to define it. A group of people with weapons against another group of people with weapons, both with orders to kill each other, doesn’t make sense to discredit one over another despite variables involved. Just my honest opinion.
As for the music, I think some CCR, Hendrix, Doors, Jefferson Airplane, etc, all the time period pieces would make an awesome soundtrack!

I could see them tackle Korea, but they’ll never do Vietnam guys. Could you imagine the reaction from the scene’s when American troops shoot small Vietnamese children. It was an ugly conflict…
