Interestingly enough, full priced CoD4 also went up from 38 to 15.

It and Lego Batman are the two game bundle with most new 360s, the fact both are now in the top 10 again is a sure indication the 360 itself was getting a sales bump with the MW2 launch.

Given the totally insane overhype and mass coverage of MW2 it’s not too surprising that some folk might want to see what they missed in COD4.

CoD 4 was helped a lot by the Wii version launching last week. Normal console versions didn’t really change a lot…

PC version saw a boost as well, for some reason.

Yes, the Wii version helped loads. That’s why it only managed number 28 on the individual format chart.

I see the PC version of MW2 came in 5th in the individual format charts… actually doing better than MW1 did with its 8th place launch in 2007.

Cod 4 Wii was the only reason that COD 4 re-entered the all formats top 40. To puut it in perspective, it beat Style Boutique DS in the individual chart, and Style Boutique was in the Top 40 All Formats (albeit at #40). EyePet PS3, another single format game, was just ahead of COD 4 Wii in the individual chart, and at #32 in the All Formats. Strikes me the sales must have been pretty significant if it could have made top 40 all formats chart on its own.

I ought to have put a smiley smiley at the end of that post, I wasn’t actually intending to be rude.

I will happily admit to a misunderstanding here though – I hadn’t realised that the Wii version was plain ol’ vanilla COD4, I’d just surmised it was a low-tech version of MW2. As this glitch in the Matrix lead to my previous bout of facetiousness, I’d like to offer an apology.

All that said, I’d be surprised if it did significant numbers – the amount of copies you actually need to sell to reach the low-end of the chart is usually remarkably low, with only the top ten really requiring any serious sell-through even at this time of year.

Now, it’s not this blog’s intention to post every little bit of gaming news (or is it?), but this is a more signal event than all the PR out there. Modern Warfare 2 for the PC, which infamously lacks dedicated servers, a console, the ability to kick players, and other things integral to a good PC game. Infinity Ward, maddeningly apathetic to the needs and requests of their users, has said that no changes to the stated areas are forthcoming.

Well, you can’t keep a good PC gamer down. Certain cracks already allow some online play, and now the console has been enabled, allowing players to kick, change POV and FOV, and presumably do most of the stuff Infinity Ward decided had to stay in the cookie jar. Tut tut, developers. You didn’t see this coming? You could have made it easier on yourselves, but instead you turned a whole segment of your market against you.
