I was a but underwhelmed by Nintendo’s demo of this at E3, it looked like it would just be a re-tread of NSMB from the DS with multi-player added in, but from all the single player stuff I’ve seen since (including the return of Yoshi) I’m totally sold on this game.

It does look fun, but hardly a revolution.. I guess Mario games don’t need a revolution though really. Mario 64 was a revolution, this just seems like a gentle evolution.

How is going back to the same, over 30 year old gameplay even an “evolution”?

Because it isn’t the same gameplay, it’s been described as the sequal to Super Mario World. Refined, with added mutliplay wich makes all the difference in the world.
The 3D Mario games are vastly different to the 2D ones.

IMHO this doesn’t look as fun as SMB 3, tbh. It looks complicated and fiddly.
