Modern Warfare 2 PC Steam version locked until Thursday
Um. This is a bit odd. As you can see from Steam’s Modern Warfare 2 page, the PC version of Infinity Ward’s shooter is locked up until Thursday.
Why? We don’t know. The game’s now on sale for PS3, 360 and PC. Unlucky if you pre-loaded it on Steam, obviously.

Why? Because an arrangement was made with Valve to withhold the digital copy, to allow retail stores additional time for sales as retail sales look better on paper.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in fury and forgot to let go of their shift keys. I fear something terrible is about to happen.

It’s like Activision is out to do anything and everything within their power to gimp the PC version.

@1 Given the profile of MW2 I can’t imagine teasing out two days worth of retail sales are actually going to make that much difference on paper.
I’m not questioning the validity of your statement, just wondering what sort of difference it’s going to make on a multi-platform game with a launch like MW2′s just had.
And, after all, a sale is still a sale.

Nope Bojangles, Steam doesn’t count towards public sales.

@ Pat – I don’t think we’ll hear anything official, but that’s most likely to be the cause of the delay. I think retail copies bought for PC are activating fine, so I’m not sure why else they’d do it.

Its probably Steam. From my experiences as an ex CM, Steam always has issues with games and Value are VERY slow in correcting issues sometimes.

You guys are obviously underestimating massive retail stores like Gamespot’s willingness to pay for a short exclusivity on sales ( Of course not from other stores but from digital copies ) so they increase their own sales and numbers. It’s not “just a sale” if Gamespot loses a sale to Steam as digital distribution HAS gained ground and IS a huge competition in today’s market.

If you buy a PC retail copy you have to register it via Steam – but the game will run today.
It’s just sales via Steam that are locked until the 12th.

Shoot a mail to Activision and/or Valve asking why?

i’ve been asking on forums what people think of the PC version and all i get back is silence, either people cant play cause it’s or no one bought the thing
also if people want to cancel their steam pre-orders they can by contacting customer support before the game is unlocked, tonnes of people on the steam forums have done just that

alot of pc gamers don’t care at this point. the only people who will care will be is the hackers and piratess. the news is very stale pc gamers have other games to play.
this attack DD it self but no one cares dd is killing consoles big time. Online gaming is killing consoles big time.
I also bet this has something to do with this.

I got mine for 25 euro today (pc), just waiting for delivery, in polish though…
don’t care about lack of dedicated servers, game looks like hell of a fun, and it’s worth 25 euro for sure, although i agree that BFBC2s multiplayer will crush it.

WHATEVER the “reason” is behind this, it is wrong. Wrong for the gamers that chose to purchase digital download version. They should not be penalized for corporate profits. Ridiculous.

Maybe they just thought that they hadn’t pissed on PC players enough and wanted to add insult to injury to nut-sack obliteration.
