Those 2 German ones were clearly first. Shame on you for saying The Guardian one was. :p

BBC2 will be a better game all around & the hype wagon will not be around 4 it. MW2 will have massive sales 2nite.

Hmm… I given the ludicrous deals I was considering grabbing this tomorrow but a lot of reviews are mentioning the short single player, and I’ll never play it online.

CoD4 also had a short SP campaign, and it sure wasn’t pefect, but hell haven’t we all bought it and loved it? I mean, you KNOW it’s gonna be huge, and the only fact of “surviving” the gigantic hype tells everything about this sequel… Just go. Do yourself a favour and be part of the biggest event of modern videogaming.

I wouldn’t buy this or BBC2 for its SP. Those games are 100% about MP online. Imo.

@Dimacorgan: Actually… no, I didn’t really rate the SP campaign in COD4. I’m obviously not going to hold that against MW2 though.
@mescalineeyes: Yeah, I guess rental is an option. Is there any co-op in this game?

yes, there’s a co-op mode, but not the entire campaign.

There are coop missions like in Resistance 2, theres also a few hoard mode type things you can do in coop but the actual campaign is SP only.

except you don’t gain any XP like in Resistance 2. Idk, co-op seems like bit of an afterthought, is all. That’s probably the worst thing about MW2, and even the worst thing is still fun.

Yeah, i dont think theres any upgrading or kit making for coop either.

I would totally buy this game for its single player. The Single player in COD4 was one of the best if not the best in the series.

I intend to buy this game for the mp.
The sp and co-op is a bonus.
I’ve recently moved and have been without an internet connection at home (apart from my iPhone and a mobile broadband dongle that I borrowed) for over a week and have hardly turned my consoles on.
It’s like going back to the PS2/xbox days when I was beginning to lose interest in gaming.
I don’t know how you guys keep up your enthusiasm for sp games…

Since everyone else is reviewing the game, I’m giving it 4 out of 6. I haven’t played it yet, but that doesn’t really matter does it? I knocked one point off for the lack of dedicated servers (that I don’t care about) and another point for using an M&M song in the trailers.

The Guardian, Telegraph and the GamingBolt one should count.

What I dont like about online is the constant mayhem of it.
I mean you just seem to run around getting killed or killing.
First one applies to me btw.
Maybe I am just old but I like taking a game at my own pace.
In saying that I will try the on line in most games.
I just dont seem to be able to get into it.

You just need to stick with it, reask.
Most mp games will throw you in at the deep end, but once you learn the ropes, you should be ok.
Most of doing well is just finding a way to play the game that you’re successful at and then getting better with that style.

@reask
Plus depends on your kind of game too. I can play a mean game of Bad Company, but get owned in Halo or CoD. For me the maps in Halo and CoD are too small. Reminds me of fish in a barrel. Spawn shoot shoot die. In Battlefield Bad Company I can use a lot more tactical strategy. The maps are huge, the gold rush mode gives purpose(not just straight up deathmatch or captur the flag), and the different classes offer deeper gameplay. I love playing support I can be one of the top scorers at the end of a match and only have a couple of kills. Because I can points for healing team mates, repairing tanks/boats/chopers etc. If all I ever had to judge MP on was CoD, I don’t think I would ever play online.
That being said, to each their own. Maybe Battlefield isn’t for you either.

Yeah I tried bc online.
Still got owned.
I think I am just a lazy sod really.
Mind you I will be trying out MW2.

Got legit store copy last week, beat campaign over the weekend. I would honestly say this is the best FPS I’ve played to date easily. The whitehouse level is POWERFUL. Story is kinda forgetable, but everything else is brilliant.
Cool that campaign is just 1/3 the game too. The other 1/3 is multiplayer (16 new maps), and the other 1/3 is special ops (at least 20 unique levels). This game has a lot to offer. Bravo Infinity Ward.

Are these “embargos” different for each company release?
I just don’t understand how a game like Killzone 2 can have 50 reviews posted on metacritic almost a month before it’s release, and a game like Modern Warfare 2 has zero to one posted a day before it’s release.
I guess I’m wondering if it’s a consistent thing for all publishers, reviewers, etc, or if it’s on some kind of a contractual case by case basis.

Yep, not every publisher sets the same amount of time before release. MW2 really is late though, cant remember any other game that was embargo’ed till the day it actually came out.

I feel I’m missing out on this because of my inability to play FPS games.
Shame really. But I think I’ll be alright. Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 2 and Eyepet will stand me in good stead.

From what I’ve played so far I’d say that the higher marks are a little bit generous. It feels a bit stale now and still feels very linear. I’m not as wowed as I thought I would be, I think the hype was far to big for this and I feel like I was a bit suckered in. The excitement I’ve had from this game so far has paled into insignificance of that from playing Uncharted 2. Sure different games, I’m pretty convinced I’ve been a victim of marketing hype and I’m left with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Since the PC version is shit, it will be interesting to see if PC Gamer lick the arse of Activision with their review score. With so many key features missing, thanks to a lazy dev team – the game should score no more than 4 or 5 out of 10

I havent played the first Bad Company as it wasnt on PC. Im still playing BF2142 and waiting for 1943. But for sure! Dice has an excellent track record of supporting community features, while clearly Infinity Ward havent a single clue.
I wish their Community Manager would spend more time interacting with the developers instead of posting pointless shit about how devs dont need publishers….
