Dannybuoy, i felt the same way at first, but the game does pick up and steadily gets better all the way to the end. It’s like they put their average levels up front, and their kick ass shit towards the climatic middle to end.

I thought the EG review read like a 9. Sequel reviews can tend to concentrate of the bad points and skim over very good points which are essentially the same as they were before – but no less fantastic. Really important factor is that they have addressed the problem of infinitely re-spawning enemies. So if they have done that but maintained the cinematic style then it’s a major step forward over CoD4 in terms of SP game for me.

EG review was very well written and informed too – which makes a change from some of their recent horrors.

When the reviews starting coming in for Uncharted 2, someone on here said that EDGE (simply because it was EDGE, apparently) would give it a bad review *because* it was such a great game… lo and behold… they gave it a 9!

There’s nothing “up its own arse” about EDGE. It just happens to actually have some standards, unlike the vast majority of magazines and websites.

It’s not a magazine’s job to stroke your ego and agree with you all the time, though most publications certainly seem more than willing to do so.

Meh, I like Edge. The forum is full of intelligent people, and the magazine provides me with some of the best reads I could get in printed form.
Just a shame that sometimes their scoring mechanic can be a bit shit (See Halo ODST and GTA4).
There’s a debate that scores themselves should be done away with altogether. But that’s another argument for another time.

You most not be going to the same EDGE forums I have gone to. The EDGE forums are largely full of incessantly cynical brits that bitch at people for even trying to talk seriously about video game or have an insightful debate.
