IW: No multiplayer reset for anyone who has retail MW2

Monday, 9 November 2009 13:56 GMT By Johnny Cullen

modernwarfare23

Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling has tweeted that anybody who has a retail copy of Modern Warfare 2, instead of a pirate/modded version, their multiplayer stats won’t be reset.

It comes as last week, Bowling said that a full multiplayer reset was on the cards.

Any players who purchased a legit retail copy will not be reset or banned. Only modded / pirate versions will be,” he said.

Bowling also confirmed that anyone who got the game early from some retailers, including GameStop, won’t be punished.

“ANY store selling #MW2 early is in violation of street date. There are no “special permissions”. That said, we won’t punish players for it.”

There you have it.

On November 2nd, there were 16,000 people online playing the game. I imagine playing the game’s multiplayer with such a large part of the community having already become familiar with the maps and spawns and having access to higher level guns, perks and kill streaks. This is not fair to those who didn’t have early access to the game. Even reseting the game’s multiplayer at midnight, those who had early access would still have a decided advantage by knowing the spawns and maps. I can understand not wanting to penalize those who bought the game legitimately but this is unfair to those who would have waited until launch like myself.

pc gamers and modder could do the same but real pc gamers I am sure don’t care at this point.

any waay there is companies like onlive who will mustly pick alot of gamers.

I would be suprised if more companies starting os and market target pc gamers.

the after math is huge, there is alot of consumers who are not happy.

I am sure EA will be picking tons of gamers for battle field.

with the best modders and pc gamer behide EA. their games will get even better that is if EA builds on the communtiy that actvision now lost.

that good for you :) it still does not change the fact that publishers are losing money and consoles are on a decline.

acvision maybe having their hey day at the pc gamers expense.

It’s pc gamers that made call duty not console gamers
it’s the modders and pc gamers who share their ideas with infinty ward.

“Any players who purchased a legit retail copy will not be reset or banned. Only modded / pirate versions will be,”

Is he stupid or what ? What’s the difference between a modded and a legit retail copy for them ?

What is his problem with mods ? Does this guy at least knows that multiplayer modern warfare has been invented by a mod back in 1999 ? A mod that was called counter strike.

I’m going to get both versions plus I’m gonna pa….pa…pay for x…xbo…xbox live! agHHH! that hurts saying that! I want to play with you and your clan while enjoying custom soundtracks playing MP for a chance :D

    #30 6 years ago
  31. Psychotext

@bdh: I’d ask if you were that stupid, but I guess there’s an obvious answer to that.

You do realise that console sales go through a cycle as cost cuts are introduced and they hit certain price points? Not to mention the fact that there’s a natural sales decay as you move through the generation (for example, the PS2, xbox and gamecube had their highest sales in their second and third years).

Actually, why am I bothering? There’s no way you could possibly understand or take on board anything other than what’s already in your head. You’ve proven that time and time again.

On second thought I think I’m just going to play a little bit of MW2 like a day because this is a great opportunity to catch the guy I’m competing for trophies with. There’s a trophy in KZ2 that you have to be in the top 1% for the week rankings.

While everyone is busy playing MW2 I can clean up quick and get the platinum in KZ2. Plus I’ll be working on GTA4,BFBC,and R2. I might not really get into MW2 because I’m such a completist and I must finish all those backlog games I have in my collection in order to be have peace of mind while playing MW2.

@G1GA maybe he will. But I recently went the other way(not as it sounds actualy). But i am in the process of jumping to PS3 from xbox. I found the experience to be less then enjoyable. The biggest culpret? That darn PS3 gamepad. I know the controls and feel of the xb360 one. I keep getting the buttons messed up(in a game that I played a lot on LIVE, now playing on PSN). I keep getting so ticked i am about ready to toss the controller thro the TV. I hope Tea doesn’t have the same trouble.

Yeah, the PS3 pad takes some getting used to, but you get used to it after a while. I find that i’m probably slightly less accurate for FPS aiming, because I’m used to my thumb facing forwards instead of at an angle, but it’s only fractions of a second’s difference.

your comment is a little confusing O.G. You don’t like the DS3 or Duke3?

The only problem I have with the DS3 is that my R2 BUTTON spring must have broke and now its super sensitive.

The 360 pad is ok. It feels good with Forza3 and FPS so I’ll get use to it. I just hate that xbox button in the middle and sending text messages are a pain.

    #45 6 years ago
  46. Psychotext

Best way to send messages on the 360 is either with an attached keyboard or using the chatpad (which is actually pretty good). I tend to use a keyboard on my ps3 and the chatpad on my 360.

oh by the way lets not talk about game for windows what a joke.

I am just having trouble adjusting to the PS3s pad. I am strongly considering a XCM Cross Fire Convertor so I can use my xb360 pad on the PS3. But in the end I might just stay on LIVE. Hard to say right now, I have a few months till my Gold account is up to decide. But I am looking at options.

And for goodness sake BDH, give a rest will you?

    #48 6 years ago
  49. G1GAHURTZ

    Yeah, I have a chat-pad for my 360.

It’s much better for messages and entering codes.

OK bdh, I decided I’d humour you and actually read and reply to each of your links. Are ya ready?

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/05/e3-predictions/ was a podcast about E3, about the only thing you can construe here as supporting your point is that they say there will be no new consoles in 2009. No shit dude, the current consoles are still being pushed by the devs, why would anyone release a new console when their existing ones have barely reached their technological, creative and productive peak?

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/retailing/article6628517.ece – a piece on the gaming industry in the recession, new game sales down at retail, used sales and online sales up.
What is this telling me exactly? That the recession is affecting industry, fucking shocker man. SHOCKER!

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/06/pachter/ A Pachter prediction piece in which he SPECULATES this may be the last traditional console cycle. That’s pure speculation, but hey, check out this quote from the piece:
“Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 still have massive room for growth over the next few years”
Well fuck me sideways if that suggests consoles are not in decline.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/consoles-could-soon-become-niche-products-playfish – This is a piece of absolute retardation to be perfectly honest which tries to spin that consoles are on the way out because of the growth in “social games” on Facebook which apparently consoles don’t provide. No shit Sherlock, just because the casual audience enjoy a bit of tetris on Facebook doesn’t mean the core gamer is going to give up their console style games. The day I see HD graphics and decent FPS or RPG gameplay on Facebook I’ll concede defeat bdh, until then, get the FUCK out.

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/31/video-game-makers-seeing-red/ – yo Dawg, it’s another recession piece, except this one is slanting towards digital distribution, it only has it’s fucking figures well and truly fucked though “A second challenge is that downloadable games cost about $10″ where the fuck is this guy shopping? Thus far Downloadable games tend to be equivalent or MORE expensive than boxed. Hmm, I feel this guys credibility coming under fire.

http://www.istockanalyst.com/article/viewarticle/articleid/3277020 – so who didn’t know games were expensive to make this generation? That hasn’t stopped plenty of million selling games being released for consoles. It’s harder to make money, but it’s still being made. You need to release an AAA title to turn a profit, is that actually such a bad thing? This dude points out that the console business model isn’t great this gen, but he isn’t heralding their death just yet, or in fact at all.

http://www.edge-online.com/news/japanese-ps3-sales-tumble-ahead-of-slim-launch – yes, PS3 sales in Japan collapsed the week before the release of the slim, then the week after the release of the slim ps3 sales sky-rocketed. This is a complete irrelevance

    You failed hard man.

Ummm I don’t want to seem like an asshole or anything but did you guys own a PS1 and PS2. Sony pretty much dominated both generations and most of the best games were exclusive to their platform. So using the Dual shock controller should be like second nature. Did you guys never own those consoles or did you just suffer through it?

    #53 6 years ago
  54. Gekidami

Dont waste your time FS, you could sit there all day disproving everything he says to the point where he makes excuses of ‘being done’ to get out of it or just changes subject because he cant think of any more counter arguments.

The next day he’d have forgotten it all anyway. He’s abit dense you see…

The Xbox S-type controller was one of the main reasons I jumped from a PS2 to an Xbox and never looked back (apart from for God of War and Wipeout). I’ve never particularly enjoyed using a DualShock.

    #59 6 years ago
  60. Psychotext

I used the dualshock style controller plenty… and it works. But that’s not to say there aren’t plenty of improvements that could be made to it.

That said, I can’t say I really have a controller preference this gen, other than where either the dpad or the triggers come in.

    #60 6 years ago
  61. blackdreamhunk

I am sure the cost is going to go up on consoles too.

by the way I wish sony and microsoft luck on figthing them hackers

    I find both OK.
If I am on the mates PS3 I am into it fairly quick.
In fact I find in lots of games the buttons you use are identical.

Only difference is 0 instead of B or whatever.
I hope I made some sense there. /reads again.
    Yep I understand what I mean. :)

Main difference is the placement of the left analogue and D-pad.

    #64 6 years ago
  65. G1GAHURTZ

Yeah, that’s the only major difference really, other than the general size and comfort, but those come down to personal preference.

    #65 6 years ago
  66. OlderGamer

I also find the shape of the ps pads to be a problem. They don’t fit into my palm as nicly as i would like. I end up having to up my fingers resting on the shoulder buttons to steady the pad. And yea, the twin anolog sticsk being close together bother me too. I play it, but it cramps my hand before too long.

I wish I could mod a DS3 into a x360 pad case. Everything on the latter feels more natural to me…

    #67 6 years ago
  68. G1GAHURTZ

I’m sure that you can get mods that let you use each pad on the other console…

    #68 6 years ago
  69. OlderGamer

If you have the cash, look into the XCM Cross Fire. It allows you to use your 360 pad on your PS3. Has a lot of cool features too, like maping the layout, autofire, and other stuff. I want one if I am going to use the PS3 as a main gaming system.

    #69 6 years ago
  70. Blerk

Not quite as simple as that though, is it? The sticks and triggers are quite different in travel, response, etc. and the games on each platform will be tweaked to respond best to that specific kind of pad.

    #70 6 years ago
  71. OlderGamer

The reviews on the XCM thingie are all good. And I beielve they have one for both systems. I haven’t tried it yet, its 100usd, and I am switching to get away from 50usd/yr on LIVE. Makes no sense to spend two years worth of LIVE play on an adapter so i can control my PS3 games better. So I am on the fence on the whole thing. Just saying XCM could be an option for some folks.

45$ There. Special offer instead of 70$ though that version wont work on a Slim apparently.

    #73 6 years ago
  74. JonFE

OlderGamer, thanks for the suggestion. Of course paying $85 for the privilege is a lot of money, but it’s good to have the option.

One thing though: quick digging around the website mentions using your PS3 pad on your x360, not the other way around. Are you sure about it?

+1 @ Blerk, the voice or reason :)

EDIT: Thanks Gekidami as well :)

    #74 6 years ago
  75. OlderGamer

There ya go, thanks Gek. Looks like you have to make sure you get the right one for your needs. Also makes me worried that Sony/MS will do something in an update to lock out the converter.

    #75 6 years ago
  76. OlderGamer

um, let me take a look. Could be the pain meds ;)

Trust me, I am using a 360 on 360 and ps3 on ps3. Meant to establish that anyways.

    #76 6 years ago
  77. Gekidami

Cant imagine them doing anything like that. I’m fairly interested myself though i’m not sure if that site will ship to Europe. Also that one dosnt work on Slim, right now i’m using the launch 60GB but who knows in the future; It might die then i’ll pick up a Slim and the thing wont work.

Also worth pointing out is that you can use the things to give normal pads turbo fire.

    #77 6 years ago
  78. OlderGamer

I found one on ebay awhile back. Might be an option.

OlderGamer, if you’ve got a spare $750 on you you can always have Ben Heck throw you together one of these: http://benheck.com/11-29-2008/ps360-controller-from-dual-shock-3#more-453

    #79 6 years ago
  80. OlderGamer

Holy hell, lol. Thats a nice piece. But wow 750$? Makes that XCM thing look like a steal. As big as the PS3 and xb360 are I am amazed really that some 3rd party hasn’t thrown together a pad like that, but ya know, with prices gamers could afford.

    #80 6 years ago
  81. blackdreamhunk

I have game pad already it’s high tech I pad about $100 for it

It’s made by logictech for the pc.

The comments suggest it used to run you $400, but the post lists $750, recession must be squeezing his balls :-p

Saitek do a range of controllers that allow you to switch the left thumb stick and D-pad, but like most Saitek products, they’re a pile of crap.
