Daily Mail has a pop at Modern Warfare 2
We didn’t see this coming…
The Daily Mail has an article on it’s website, slamming Modern Warfare 2. And it only took this long.
One of the quotes from the article has a pop at the game for letting players kill civilians in terror attacks.
“Among the most controversial is a situation where the gamer must decide whether to kill unarmed civilians at a Russian airport in order to infiltrate a terrorist group.”
Labour MP Keith Vaz even has a say on the matter, saying he will air concerns for the game in parliament later on today.
“I am absolutely shocked by the level of violence in this game and am particularly concerned about how realistic the game itself looks,” said Vaz.
Surprise, surprise…
Thanks, MCV.

I wondered when Mr Vaz would poke his nose in. Surprised it’s taken this long really…

At what point is the penny finally going to drop and everybody realizes that video games are no longer (and haven’t been for a very long time) a for kids only medium?

I actually read this on the 7th and thought they were fairly lenient about it, they don’t renounce gaming as sick twisted or evil, they pretty much just state the facts on this one, which for the Daily Mail is a fucking rarity.
They say the game has controversial segments, can anyone deny that after we had two pages of argument over it here on vg247 ourselves? They mention that these bits can be skipped.
If they really wanted to take a pop at gaming they could have claimed bullshit about the corruption of our youth through “forced” violent sections of games, but they didn’t, they just told it like it is.

I don’t know much about this history of Daily Mail. But the piece of MW2 was pretty level headed and spot on in my book.

…and it begins. Be prepared to see all the crying on your local news cast soon. Now all it takes is some emo kid to shoot up his school cafeteria.

We tend to leave that sort of thing up to you lot. It’s not very British. Our kids are still flushing each others heads down the toilet.

Vaz is raising it in the House of Commons this afternoon:

Not exactly Prime Minister’s question time, but still…

If I point out for the record that Keith Vaz is a bit of a cunt, does that break any libel laws?

Is it libel if it’s true?
