If the new footage of New Super Mario Bros. Wii posted yesterday was not enough to quell your cravings for the game, maybe the screens posted over on Andriasang will do the trick.
Honestly, all the screens did for us was make our internal quaking a bit more pronounced, but that’s just us being excited over the game, just like a kid getting a Big Wheel for Christmas.
It’s out November 15 and 20 in the US and UK, respectively.

How are they working the controls for this? Will it actually employ motion control?
Gekidami said:
I doubt it will, atleast not as the main gameplay element. Maybe in minigames and stuff?

I would prefer to use a normal controller. It would be great if the GameCube one worked with it, because that is all I have. We’re cheap as dirt around this house.

I wouldn’t count on it Steph.
I DL’d Super Mario World on VC a while ago, thinking that it would just work fine with a Gamecube pad like Mario Tennis does.
But the buttons were arranged so that it was almost impossible to sprint and jump at the same time, pretty much making the game impossible to play.
I was basically forced to buy a Wii Classic Controller.
Knowing this, and knowing Nintendo, I can imagine them jumping up and down with glee at the idea of selling up to four Classic Controllers with every copy of the game…

Very excited about this game. But yes, the controls worry me. All I can say is I hope it doesn’t have waggle built in.

It does have waggle in it… but I can’t remember what it’s for. It was a while since I read about it.

I don’t really mind waggle tbh, it’s more interesting than pounding X on the other consoles. What sucks is when the only attempt at motion control are relatively pointless bits of waggle.
MadWorld made a decent effort at making motion an integrated part of combat rather than an after-thought.
But this is Mario, will we need anything more advanced than A for jump and B for ‘fire’?

I have a Wii alright but have never played a Mario game.
Probably never will either.

err, thanks for that reask…
i know it has waggle when you’re on some boat and you control a light on the boat that is the only light available. it was shown in one of the videos out there. i dont think it features too heavily though (thankfully).

Ahh… here you go:
“When you want to spin your character in the air to float a bit while dropping, you need to shake your remote. You also have to shake the remote, and hold a button, when you want to pick up another player. Both of these work relatively well, but it can feel awkward switching from straight-up button controls to motion in the middle of a run.”

ahh of course the flying bit. damn forgot about that….hmm, that might suck as it’s a pretty common thing to do.
there should be another option for those who think waggle motions suck but knowing nintendo there won’t be :/
