Shaba closed, Acti confirms
Activision’s confirmed that Spider-Man: Web of Shadows developer Shaba is now more, following rumour reports earlier this week.
“Activision continually evaluates the resources at our studio properties to ensure that they are properly matched to our product slate and overall strategic goals,” said a statement from the publisher.
“As part of this process, we recently made the difficult but necessary decision to close Shaba Studios. We are grateful for the studio’s contributions and wish this talented team success in their future endeavours.”
All the best, chaps. More on GI.

Dust 514 gets first vid, looks hot
You can watch the first video for CCP’s Dust 514 on EGTV now. It looks very nice, if very staged.
We didn’t actually see it at GDCE in Cologne this year, but this is likely the movie the Icelandic firm used to announce the shooter.
Go see.

GTTV’s just put its Modern Warfare 2 special live. It’s a must-watch, so get to it.
There’s confirmation of multiple playable characters and combat on US soil there, gleaned from an interview with Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella.
New footage, too. Go go go. It’s out November 10.

Mass Effect 2 is “darker, harder” than original
BioWare boss Greg Zeschuk has likened Mass Effect 2 to Empire Strikes Back in terms of its place in the ME trilogy. Things are about to get nasty, yo.
“Yeah we have definitely designed it in that fashion,” he told IGN AU.
“If you recall, Empire Strikes Back was the darker chapter and that is how we designed the ME2 story and experience: to try and make the player reflect on the challenges of the character. If you put ME2 next to the original it is definitely a darker, harder game.”
Hit the link for more. Beware of spoilers, though. It’s out for PC and 360 early next year.

Oddworld games about to hit PC, PS3
Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning’s told Bitmob that the series is making a return in the not to distant future on PC.
“All four of the major Oddworld games will be re-releasing this winter in a package called The Oddbox,” he said.
“This will be the Abe games, Munch, and Stranger as one package for Steam’s digital distribution network, as well as a few other digital distribution outlets.”
And that’s not all. PS3 owners are about to get them too.
“We just signed the contract this week and the original Abe games will officially be coming to PSN very soon,” Lanning added.
There’s promise there of more Oddworld games, in addition.
Thanks, RPS.

First Saw reviews don’t exude promise
Saw: The Videogame is apparently on the verge of release; IGN’s just given it 7.5/10 in its first review.
It doesn’t sound like the most amazing thing in the world:
It would have taken a lot more polish and time to put Saw up there with the kings of the survival horror genre. But the developers are definitely onto something, and I’d like to see the Saw games improve over time. For now, some of the puzzles repeat a few times too many while the plot points and big scares at times run thin.
But never mind. Buy it anyway. The video review’s after the break, if you want to see it in action.
As for the rest:
It’s out on November 20. Who knew?

Final Fantasy XIV screens glorify the working man

Andriasang has a bunch of new Final Fantasy XIV screens and assets. They feature people cooking, weaving, and blacksmithing. There are also a couple of characters with spears and bows, but no one cares about that stuff, right? Regardless, it’s all very pretty.
Don’t take our word for it, though. We only write words. Pictures and graphics are to us as flashlights are to indigenous natives. We fear and glorify them, but know nothing of their inner-workings. Decipher the screens for yourself through the link.

Rock Band’s iPhone version includes 20 songs, multiplayer

After about a zillion knock-offs, Rock Band’s finally making the jump to iPhone. And, short of a living room in which to play, the teensy-fied rhythm game’s bringing the full Rock Band experience to the palm of your hand: 20 songs, guitar, drums, bass, vocals, and multiplayer.
No tiny peripherals, though, so you can just go ahead and play the world’s smallest violin about that.
It’s out next month. The full song list is after the break.
Thanks, Kotaku.

Red Dead Redemption screens show horses, shootin’, a stagecoach

Rockstar has released some rootin tootin Red Dead Redemption screens, cowboys.
Soon, we’ll all be able to get our guns a blazin’ at anything that moves in the game, along with being able to tan hides and sell it.
Saloon gals love a man who is resourceful, compadres.
The game will be out in the first half of next year, so to hold you over, mosey on over to Joystiq and take a gander at the pics.
Yeehaw.

Eliza Dushku may work on movie version of WET

Eliza Dushku has revealed to MTV News that there is a possibility that she could be lending more than just her voice to WET – it could be tuned into a movie – maybe.
“This video game WET I just did, she’s got a working class Lara Croft thing going on, and she’s pretty kick ass,” Dushku said. “She travels the globe, she’s in Hong Kong and she’s in the UK and she’s a gun for hire and she’s got two samurai swords. She’s pretty vicious.
“So that’s been something that maybe could turn into a live-action Dushku vehicle.”
Fellas will line the block for that one 14-days in advance, we reckon.

Team Ninja job posting outs possible PS3 and Xbox 360 title

Team Ninja’s apparently working on a new PS3/Xbox 360 title, if a new job listing is to be believed.
Tecmo’s posted the classified ad, and is looking for a graphic programmer for a high end project.
Since Metroid: The Other M is currently in the works, it’s probably not that one, but something new entirely.
All bets on Ninja Dead or Alive Gaiden.

Bayonetta screens show off her um, assets, yeah

Some new screens for Bayonetta have popped up over on D’toid.
Each one is a bit different, really. Showing off her tight hair-suit.
There’s also a couple crotch shots and one showing her bare ass.
If you like half-naked pixilated females, well, these screens are for you fellas.

Video of BottleRocket’s The Flash hits the net

After the break is a video for the canceled superhero game, The Flash game.
It’s the one BottleRocket was making before its publisher, Brash, hit the skids.
The footage you will see is just six months worth of work, and there was still at the least a year to go on it.
Too bad, really, it looked rather appealing for a superhero title.
