Modern Warfare 2: Psychotext “dogging” comment makes The Daily Star

modernwarfare2box2

This is so awesome. The Daily Star’s quoted our very own Psychotext on his anticipated favoured use for Modern Warfare 2′s Prestige Edition NV goggles.

Hordes of joy-pad junkies are rubbing their hands in anticipation and some have already admitted they will use the goggles for “stealth dogging” and to spy on gay cruising spots.

One Brit gamer, named Psychotext, posted on the forum vg247.com: “They’re good enough for stealth dogging/cruising and I think that’s all anyone really cares about.”

Best thing ever. Psychotext: we salute you.

Modern Warfare 2 ships on November 10.

EA Russia PS3 ME2/L4D2 listings an “error”, says EA

masseffect21b

EA has revealed to Eurogamer that the earlier listings from this morning of PlayStation 3 versions of Left 4 Dead 2 and Mass Effect 2 were posted in “error”.

As you may have noticed in our updates since, the listings have been removed from the website.

In a gist: both games are now 360-PC exclusive again… for the foreseeable future anyways.

While a L4D2 appearence on the PS3 was always going to be very unlikely, BioWare’s refused to rule out Mass Effect appearing on the console someday. But for now, that “someday” is a pipedream.

Catch more through the first link.

L4D2 is out on November 17, while Mass Effect 2 is out in Q1 2010.

Fils-Aime: PSPgo has a “fundamental concept problem”

reggie

In an interview with The Washington Post (via GI), Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has said that the PSPgo has a “fundamental concept problem”, wondering “what’s the benefit” in it.

“I have the utmost respect for all our competitors, but it’s interesting to try and answer the consumer question of ‘What’s in it for me?’ in that product,” said Fils-Aime.

He also stated that, despite the success of the iPhone, the company has no plans to enter the mobile phone market.

“We don’t have a desire to get into the phone space. We think the game business is competitive enough.”

Sega: “We want to crack core gaming”

segalogo1

Sega’s UK managing director John Clark has gone on record with GI, saying he wants the company to “crack core gaming”.

It comes as the developer released hardcore games like House of the Dead: Overkill and Madworld earlier this year on the Wii with critical success, but sales on both were mediocre at best. Clark insists though they will persist and “have a go”.

“We’re prepared to have a go and try to be innovative, and we want to crack core gaming.  We’ve spent a lot of time thinking there must be a way to release mature, more adult content on the Wii format.

“House of the Dead performed really well. Was that because it was mature or because it was an arcade title? You might lean towards the SEGA IP and the affiliation with Nintendo, but we matured that up by bringing out House of the Dead Overkill, and made it more of a core game,” said Clark.

“At the same time we entered into an exciting partnership with Platinum Games, the first result of which was MadWorld – a fantastic, innovative, original game, no doubt about it.”

First Brutal Legend reviews go live with nines from IGN

brutallegend7

IGN’s gone live with the first reviews for Brutal Legend.

Judgement: it’s bloody awesome. IGN US went with a 9.0, while IGN Australia went with a 9.3.

A blurb from the US review:

“Brutal Legend isn’t quite perfect and there is room for improvement (it’s a little short, side quests are repetitive…), but when the credits roll you’ll find yourself hoping for a sophomore release. Double Fine created a rich heavy metal universe and backstory full of great characters and creatures, with potential for an out-of-this-world sequel. Here’s hoping Shafer and company get a chance to take us there.”

The US video review is after the jump. Game’s out on the PS3 and 360 this week.

Rumour – ModNation Racers beta underway

ModNation Racers

TheGamerAccess is reporting that a beta for ModNation Racers is already underway.

The beta for the game – which was announced at E3 at Sony’s presser from United Front Games – is most likely to be an internal affair for now as the site claims the beta was being played by a Sony employee.

Gamers who bought the GOTY edition of LittleBigPlanet in the US will have access to the beta when it’s publicly released.

As for Europe, we don’t know if, when or how to get the beta. But we’ll send an email off to SCEE to see if there are any plans for the beta will come to Europe once available to the public.

Find more info through the link. The game’s out next year for the PS3.

Scribblenauts development time revealed

scribblenauts

5th Cell’s creative director Jeremiah Slaczka has revealed in an interview with Gama that Scribblenauts was in development for over a year.

One year and three months, to be exact.

“[We worked on Scribblenauts for] a year and three months, which is crazy. That’s probably the only thing I don’t like about 5th Cell’s development. It’s just how it is. That’s the way it is. We’re competing against companies like Square Enix and Nintendo, triple-A products,” revealed Slaczka.

“People hold us to the same standard, which I’m totally fine with — I want them to hold us to that standard. But they get three years, and I get one year. That’s the big difference. I feel like a boxer with one hand tied between my back.”

More through the first link. The game was released last week for the DS.

EA Russia mentions Left 4 Dead 2 for PS3 [Update]

left4dead27

Update: Listing has been taken down. It’s now a Xbox 360 only game again.

Update 2: EA insist both listings for Mass Effect 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 were posted in “error“.

Original Story: The EA Russia website has listed a PlayStation 3 version of Left 4 Dead 2.

Previously, Valve has categorically said before they aren’t working on the PS3, so either this is a massive fuck-up or EA Russia is doing the jump on everyone. It’s the former, almost certainly.

Ex-KGB will be called in to kill whoever put up the listings, accidental or not.

We’ll leave an email with Valve. For fun, like.

Earlier, the same site also listed a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2.

“It’s a Mario that will continue selling even after one year has passed,” said the Mario creator.

Miyamoto was there to demo the game at the event, which was held in Tokyo yesterday.

Remember: this is one of three titles Nintendo prez Satoru Iwota expects to sell over ten million units.

Game was recently confirmed for release dates of November 15/20.

Avatar items coming for Modern Warfare 2

modernwarfare25

Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling has confirmed in a tweet that Modern Warfare 2 will receive the Avatar treatment on 360.

It most likely wont be in the form of Avatar Rewards, but it will be for Avatar items: some of which Bowling hopes will be free.

“Not sure we’ll be doing any Avatar rewards, but we are making avatar items. With some free ones hopefully.”

Game’s out on November 10 for PS3 and 360. PC version is out on November 24, apparently.
