Assassin’s Creed just $5 on Steam this week
Assassin’s Creed is now just $5 on Steam, and will be until tomorrow.
Which is great if you’re in the US. No such luck if you’re British: it’s still £20 for you, you un-American loser.
Go crazy, Star and Stripes people.

Seth to be “even cheaper” in SSFIV
Capcom community manager Seth Killian’s told Kotaku that Super Street Fighter IV’s end boss will be annoying enough to make you stamp your joypad to death. He didn’t actually say that, but what the hey.
He did say this: “Seth will be even cheaper and more irritating” than he was in SFIV.
Heartening. Why?
“This is the most fan-responsive game in Capcom’s history,” Killian said.
The game’s out next year. You may as well start getting riled now.

Perfect Bayonetta Famitsu score reserved for 360 version
As you can see from this ScrawlFX shot of the review section in the latest Famitsu, talk of Platinum’s Bayonetta receiving a perfect 40/40 in the mag was true. For the 360 version.
The PS3 game got a shameful 38/40. This will make the purest’s head explode. Does this mean Bayonetta has 39/40 overall? Or should the two versions be seen as separate entities?
You decide. Or just play the game and enjoy yourself. Whatever.

According to NPD figures, 5th Cell’s Scribblenauts sold almost 194,000 units in the US last month.

Indian gamer takes GTA IV super-play record
Indian 26-year-old Chirantan Patnaik has taken the official Guinness world record for the longest continuous play session of GTA IV.
Patnaik played the Rockstar epic for 40 hours 20 minutes at the offices of blog NeuralChaos.com from September 4-6.
An exercise regime of running and yoga helped him reach his goal, apparently, which beats the previously held record of 28 hours and 1 minute, held by an American.
What format? He was playing the game on PS3.
Thanks, MTV.

Inversion announced, developed by TimeShift’s Saber
Namco and TimeShift developer Saber Interactive have announced Inversion, a third-person shooter featuring the ability to reverse gravity.
Sounds funky. The game takes place during an alien invasion that sounds pretty much like an excuse to be able to spin the environment around a lot with pockets of funny gravity stuff. Call us cynical.
Joystiq has more. And some shots. It’s out next year for PS3 and 360.

You can watch a video of the FT-86 in action in the PS3 game here. Thanks, Syrok.
GT5 hits Japan in March.

Bowling seeks to ease MW2 PC tension with IWNET explanation
Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling’s posted an explanation of how IWNET will work with the PC version of Modern Warfare 2, following uproar surrounding news that the game won’t allow dedicated servers.
Bowling claims the closed system will allow players to match against others of similar skill while deterring cheating, adding party features, and so on.
A petition aimed at getting dedicated servers added to the game is now past the 100,000 mark.

Miyamoto: Nintendo’s next console will “likely” be “more compact”
Nintendo dev lord Shigeru Miyamoto’s told Popular Mechanics that motion control will most likely stay for the company’s next console, but that everything’s going to be… squished.
“My guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient,” he said.
He added that the motion-based interface is now familiar to the masses.
“What we’ve been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience,” he said.
The WiiNie? Thanks, Gama.

What is it? It’s the next Ghost Recon game, silly. The one out next year. The one that’s only been half-announced for fiscal 2010.
No detail, obviously. Thanks, Destructoid.

Microsoft trials “pilot rewards program” for Live
Microsoft is apparently about to trial some kind of Live rewards program.
According to Kotaku, emails received by subscribers today promise “cool stuff” for those chosen for stage one of the effort.
“This is an exclusive pilot rewards program,” said the mail.
“That means that the people who get in get stuff. Cool stuff. You want cool stuff, right? Sure you do, we all want stuff. Especially cool stuff.
“Well, you’ve only got until October 21, 2009 to let us know you want cool stuff, because after that, the doors close and someone else gets the cool stuff.”
Read the full thing through there. Rumour for now.

Aussie PSPgo sells 1,000 units in week one
According to The Age, PSPgo managed to move only 1,000 units in Australia on its launch week.
Michael Ephraim, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, told the publication that first week sales were “not under 1000 but it’s slightly over 1000″ units.
“Clearly we haven’t done massive numbers but it’s not something that we’re concerned about … because there are still some issues that we need to work through,” added Ephraim.

Best Buy’s put up a list of store opening at midnight across the US in celebration of the release of Modern Warfare 2.
There’s “quite a few,” meaning you should be able to not use dedicated multiplayer servers wherever you are.
No idea if UK retailers are planning anything on the same lines. We’ll check.
