Pachter: PSP Go is priced “too high,” won’t have significant impact on PSP sales

Speaking with VG247, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter took the PSPgo to task, explaining that – without a price drop – it probably won’t be anything more than a teensy blip on gamers’ radars.
“The Go is just priced too high for the perceived value. It may play music and movies, but most think iPod Nano ($149) or Touch ($199) for that, and it is very expensive for a portable gaming device. I don’t see it boosting overall sales, and without a price cut, 3000 sales are likely to be down year-over-year,” he said.
“I think Go will sell 400,000 in the US, 400,000 in Europe and 200,000 in Japan through March. Most of those units will be incrementan ‘replacement’ sales as people trade up, and they may dampen PSP-3000 demand by half that much. The 3000 is selling at last year’s price in a worse economy, with new competition from a sub-$200 Wii. I think overall PSP sales will be pretty similar to last year’s, maybe down a small amount.”
Hear that, Sony? Pachter watches everything you do for a living. He might have a point.

MS: “We have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360″
Xbox Live director of programning Larry Hyrb aka Major Nelson has posted on his blog that Microsoft has “no plans” to introduce a Blu-ray add-on for the Xbox 360.
It comes as earlier this morning, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer seemed to have confirmed that an add-on for the 360 would be forthcoming. However, Hyrb says Ballmer was actually referring to accessories for the PC.
“During an interview yesterday, Steve Ballmer was asked about Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360. I wanted to clear something up. Steve was referring to Blu-Ray accessories for the PC. As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360.”
Consider the matter closed.

Ubisoft knows setting for Assassins Creed III
Ubisoft’s already drummed out in it’s head the setting for Assassin’s Creed III, according to CEO of Ubi’s Montreal studio Yannis Mallat. They still aren’t going to say anything though, not even a hint.
“Oh yeah,” said Yallat, when he was asked if the developer knew which parts of history the next game will see.
“We know how to keep our secrets. Think about it, Assassin’s Creed as a brand is definitely oriented towards reliving pivotal moments in history. So along that path we may revisit some interesting moments.”
And an ending for Desmond?
“Who talked about an ending,” admitted Yallat.
We haven’t even had Assassin’s Creed II yet, and here we are talking about ACIII. ACII is out on November 20 FYI, in case you didn’t know.
Thanks, CVG.

Namco thanks Japanese 360 Tales of Vesperia owners for being beta trialists to PS3 port
In the booklet for the PS3 port of the game, Tales of Vesperia developers Namco-Bandai has said thank you to the Xbox 360 owners who bought the original version for being beta trialists in the game.
These are just some of the nuggets from the booklet.
“Xbox 360 players often complained ‘why aren’t these parts voiced?’, so when making the PS3 version we first set about improving the voicing … As a result, the entire main scenario became fully voiced.”
“We’d be delighted if those who played the Xbox 360 version would play the PS3 version too. Of course the same goes for those playing for the first time.”
“We made a lot of changes we think Xbox 360 players would be sure to appreciate.”
“There are a lot of elements from the Xbox 360 version which were improved, so please give it a try.”
“Based on the feedback so kindly provided by Xbox 360 players, we added a lot of additional elements.”

R.U.S.E to use Windows 7 multitouch
Ubisoft’s announced that it’s unique RTS game R.U.S.E. will use multitouch from Windows 7.
It’ll provide according to Ubi “immersive and new experiences”.
“As a strategy game relying on a clean and intuitive interface built around the zoom, R.U.S.E. was the perfect candidate for Ubisoft to demonstrate how multitouch improves and streamlines the way games are played,” says Ubi’s John Parkes.
The RTS is out next year for the PS3, 360 and PC.

Nomura: Versus XIII will be at E3 “if we’re quick enough”
Speaking in this week’s Famitsu, Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura has said that the earliest we’re going to see his game is at E3 next June.
“We’ll gradually unveil it starting next year, at E3 if we’re quick enough,” said Nomura.
He also talked about the development video shown at the Tokyo Game Show on the game.
“That wasn’t development stuff, but a technical demo reel of sorts. We hurriedly put together a video because we wanted people be assured that Versus is also still under development.”
He also confirmed that the gameplay for the game will be similar of that to Kingdom Hearts.
“It will fall close to that category, but we’re aiming for a fusion of new features with the classic FF style. We see level design as the most important part of development here, but it’ll be a while before we can show any of that.”
It’ll release when… well, just before the end of the world. After Final Fantasy XIII anyways, exclusive to PlayStation 3.
Thanks, 1UP.

When it was announced a bit and a half back, it was confirmed as a disc release only for the PS3 and 360.
It’s out next March.
