Uncharted 2 used “close to 100%” of PS3′s “power”

uncharted25

Naughty Dog co-boss Christophe Balestra’s claimed Uncharted 2 almost maxes out PS3′s “power”.

“On PlayStation 3 for our first game, we were using probably only 30 percent of the power of the Cell, and this time we’re getting close to 100 percent of using the power of the PS3,” he said, talking in two making-of movies you can see after the break.

That’s it, then. Uncharted 2 is as good as PS3′s going to get. May as well bin it now, then.

We’re joking. Watch the movies for yourself.

OpFlash man: Modern Warfare 2 is “Michael Bay of videogames”

operationflashpoint

Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising Sion Lenton has branded Modern Warfare 2 the “Michael Bay of videogames,” saying the upcoming Infinity Ward shooter is a “hyped event”.

“The very nature of the game, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, is a hyped event,” the developer told EG.

“It’s kind of like the Michael Bay of videogames. Its budget, its sales, all these kind of things – it is a huge game. But if you’re worried that about kind of thing then nobody would ever make games – there would only be one football game, one shooter game and one platform. It’s healthy to have competition.”

Lenton went on to say, however, that Dragon Rising and Modern Warfare 2 aren’t actually competing. Make your mind up, Sion.

“I don’t actually think we’re in the same place as Modern Warfare 2, anyway,” he said.

“We’re a different creature. We’ll probably get people buying [our game] and Modern Warfare 2 as well. There’s a market for both. I really see Modern Warfare 2 as Hollywood and we’re the Cannes, the arty documentary – dare I say the reportage-style thing.”

Full interview through there.

Analyst – Sony and Nintendo handheld sales have peaked

pspgo

DFC Intelligence David Cole has claimed Sony and Nintendo’s handheld offering have run out of steam.

“The dedicated portable game systems from companies like Nintendo and Sony are still expected to lead the [handheld] market, but it appears growth for these devices has peaked,” he said.

“The platforms from Apple are expected to be responsible for the bulk of market growth over the next few years.”

There’s more on GI.

Gearbox will likely go back to Brothers in Arms

brothersinarms

Want to kill some more Nazis? Sure you do. Who doesn’t?

“I think you can probably expect at some point there’ll be another Brothers in Arms game,” Gearbox vice president Brian Martel told CBS11tv.

“You can probably expect that… If you look at the history of where we’ve been, where we’re going… That’ll be in the future for sure.”

First Assassin’s Creed II review hits the stands, is a 9/10

asscreed2a

OXM may not have a fancy-pants past-rewriting animus at its disposal, but the magazine’s still making some history of its own with the world’s first ever Assassin’s Creed II review. So, how’d Ezio and co. stand up under OXM’s unfaltering scrutiny? Pretty well, as it turns out. The numbers nine and ten were apparently mentioned once or twice, or so we’re hearing.

OXM’s Mike Channell was the first non-Ubisoft person in the world to complete the game, the company tells us, and he was impressed,” said a post on OXM’s official site. “It addresses nearly all the gripes we had with the original game, including all that artificial flag-collecting nonsense, and delivers a brilliant single-player experience that’s built around a cracking story.”

The new issue – in all its review-packed glory – is on shelves now. Go buy it! Buy it so that the fine folks at OXM can keep telling you what to buy!

Dragon Age: Origins dated for PS3

dragonage13

Back when Dragon Age was delayed into November, the PS3 version was curiously banished into the month’s furthest reaches. However, no specific date or reason was given. Now, though, EA’s seen fit to spill the beans.

It’s coming on November 17, EA’s David Silverman told Joystiq. Why? Apparently, BioWare “wanted more time to get [the] PS3 [version] to ‘Bioware standards.’”

The game’s hitting the Xbox 360 and PC on November 3 in North America and November 6 in Europe. We’ve taken the liberty of emailing EA to make sure the November 17 date applies to Eurpean PS3 owners as well. If not, we’ll be sure to let you know.
