Jonathan Blow hiring for “full-body motion tracking” project

It would appear that Jonathan Blow, the time-defying mind behind Braid, is looking to set a new project into motion. Over on the official Braid blog, Blow’s hoping to hire a programmer to “do very interesting work with full-body motion tracking.”
When asked by Joystiq if motion controls were being applied to his previously announced new project, The Witness, Blow was only able to say that he “can’t talk about this right now,” and added that “it may not even actually happen (depending on whether I can find someone qualified to do it!).”
So there we are.

Rumor: Nintendo to release new DSi with bigger screens

Is it time for another Nintendo DS iteration already? Fortunately for our wallets, the answer appears to be “no” – for now, anyway. However, according to a Nikkei Shimbun report obtained by Wired’s GameLife blog, Nintendo is touching up the DSi in a few crucial areas.
If the report is to be believed, Nintendo’s set to release a DSi with 4″ screens – a nice chunk of added real estate over the current model’s 3.25″. It’s supposedly coming out this year.
Can you guess what Nintendo said when asked about this hardware revision? “We don’t respond to rumors.” Oh Nintendo, you crazy kook – what won’t you say?

First DJ Hero review goes live, gets a 9 from IGN UK
DJ Hero is out tomorrow in the US and Friday in the UK.
IGN UK has gone live with the first review for the game, giving the game a 9.3.
Here’s a snip:
Those quibbles aside though, we’re full of praise for FreeStyleGames’ sterling work on its inaugural franchise debut. DJ Hero is a beautifully structured experience that understands the rhythm-action genre thoroughly enough to appeal directly to progression-obsessed fans, yet knows how to juggle its goods to offer a music experience that’s never frustrating and wears its unpretentious accessibility with pride. Its perfectly-judged difficulty curve ensures there’s a richly rewarding sense of accomplishment as you hone your turntable skills and, even if you’re just looking for a quick spin, the quality of the game’s audio is compelling in itself. Hands-down, it’s the most exciting, refreshing music game we’ve played in ages and, whether on or off the decks, DJ Hero succeeds admirably in its goal to bring people together to party – and isn’t that what music’s all about?
This is only the start. Expect more reviews to go live soon.

Dev claims 80% piracy rate on iPhone title
Whoops. iPhone developer Smells Like Donkey has told Develop that around 80 percent of all downloads of its Tap-Fu title were illegally downloaded.
Pirating games on iPhone is easy, apparently, thanks to “a kernel patch that bypasses Apple’s DRM system” that “would take an average person five minutes in Google to find.”
This doesn’t bode well. Tap-Fu costs $1.99 on the App Store, but even that clearly isn’t cheap enough for some.

Pachter: Modern Warfare 2 could sell 14 million
Speaking in the latest Bonus Round, analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Modern Warfare 2 will sell 14 million units, just in 2009 alone.
“Last year sold about 8 million in the Christmas quarter, I think most people think this will do 10-12. It really depends on marketing – if they blitz the airwaves and we see ads on every basketball game, football game, college football game, every beauty Pageant … maybe 14 million,” said the Wedbush Morgan analyst.
So far, the original Modern Warfare has sold over 13 million units, as of May 2009. Although MW2 is much more antcipated then COD4, so he might just be on to something.
Thanks, Boomtown.

Insomniac gives no comment on R3 billboard, Resistance not last new IP from studio
Speaking to GamerZines, Insomniac’s James Stevenson has said that if anyone thought that Resistance was the last new IP coming from the studio, you thought wrong.
“We don’t really want to talk about anything outside of A Crack In Time, but what I will say in general is that, if you think that Resistance is going to be the last new IP from Insomniac obviously that would be a silly thought,” said Stevenson.
“At some point in the future there will be new IPs, but when, where, why, how, you know, who knows?”
And what about that Resistance 3 billboard? Simply put: no comment.

Telltale: We have something “that’ll blow everybody’s mind”
Speaking in an interview with Shack (via D’Toid), Telltale’s Dan Connors has revealed that the studio has lined up something “that’ll blow everybody’s mind”.
Asked what would they be doing after Wallace and Gromit and Monkey Island was finished, Connors said:
“We’ve got product in production right now that we’ve been talking about but we haven’t really set a release date to. Everything else, we’re just ….we’re out in the streets, sort of talking around to different folks to figure our franchises that make real good sense for a May-June timeframe.
“Hopefully we’ll pull something in that’ll blow everybody’s mind. We’re pretty excited about the people we’re talking to, so hopefully we’ll have a pretty huge announcement here soon.”
Exciting, kids. Today’s keyword is “exciting”. Find the full interview through the first link.
