DICE reiterates Bad Company 2 will have dedicated servers

DICE has reiterated Karl-Magnus Troedsson’s tweet that dedicated servers are the only way to go for multiplayer on the PC version of Bad Company 2.

“A lot of buzz has been floating around the internet lately about dedicated servers,” said Gordon Van Dyke. “Since Battlefield 1942 DICE has used dedicated servers for all platforms. This formula has worked well, and still works well, for us and for the gaming community. We have stayed true to this practice and will continue this tradition into the upcoming title Battlefield Bad Company 2.

“Other games use player-hosted or ‘peer to peer’ solutions, often resulting in a ‘host with the most’ situation; where the player hosting the match has an advantage over other players connected to their game.

“This makes dedicated servers the best solution for online PC gaming hands down.”

All the chest beating is in response to Infinity Ward using IWNet for PC multiplayer matches with Modern Warfare 2.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is out on 5th March 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as PC.

See my comment in the Brink article above this one for my opinion on the matter. IW really screwed the pooch on this one and everyone + dog is moving in to try and pick up the customers left by the IWNET debacle. Too bad neither this game nor Brink will be as good as MW2. Too bad IW had been arrogant enough to buy into it’s own hype machine.

Well, it doesn’t look like IW are going to change their minds.

We’ll wait and see G1GA, money talk after all and I think they’re going to see if they really are losing the money we’re telling them they are or if we’re all just chest beating and full of crap. I hope they do find a way myself because I wouldn’t mind playing it with my clan and they just won’t run it if they can’t admin it.

I for one will be buying Bad Company 2. I bought bad company one, bought one dlc, got another for free, and still play. CoD comes out with a new game every year, followed by 2-5 map packs, and then 12 months later a new full priced game. Plus CoD perks unbalance the game. Gold Rush is a great freaken online mode – places the focus squarly on where the action is, no more wandering around or needlessly splitting up the teams aimlessly around the map.
I know to each their own. You like what you like. But don’t just hate on BC2 because it lacks a CoD name. A lot of folks that will tell you BC > CoD, i am one of em.

ty DICE! but I for one was going to buy the game anyway. and as for IW, they clearly showed that money is the only thing that they want right now. not that it matters too much anyway. there r already some possible ways to bypass their new system and the game is not even out yet. oh and let’s not even start on the piracy subject. under expectations steam sales is just the beginning. cheers!

I am more of a battle field gamer than MW fan any way. I like my big tanks and planes.

I love the battlefield series but havent played Bad Company because I dont own a console. Looking forward to it but in the mean time, BF2142 is now 3 years old and I am STILL playing it on 64 player servers
