First DJ Hero review goes live, gets a 9 from IGN UK

djhero9

DJ Hero is out tomorrow in the US and Friday in the UK.

IGN UK has gone live with the first review for the game, giving the game a 9.3.

Here’s a snip:

Those quibbles aside though, we’re full of praise for FreeStyleGames’ sterling work on its inaugural franchise debut. DJ Hero is a beautifully structured experience that understands the rhythm-action genre thoroughly enough to appeal directly to progression-obsessed fans, yet knows how to juggle its goods to offer a music experience that’s never frustrating and wears its unpretentious accessibility with pride. Its perfectly-judged difficulty curve ensures there’s a richly rewarding sense of accomplishment as you hone your turntable skills and, even if you’re just looking for a quick spin, the quality of the game’s audio is compelling in itself. Hands-down, it’s the most exciting, refreshing music game we’ve played in ages and, whether on or off the decks, DJ Hero succeeds admirably in its goal to bring people together to party – and isn’t that what music’s all about?

This is only the start. Expect more reviews to go live soon.

It just got a 9 from IGN US

“In an overcrowded genre of music games, DJ Hero resides at the very top with the best of ‘em. The original mixes are stunning and scratching the turntable is just as fun as it seems. It’s not as full-featured as Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero 5, but the simpler presentation really works in its favor. Like an ’80s arcade, mixmasters will be gunning for those high scores on the leaderboards. A little headroom has been left for improvement with a sequel, particularly in the head-to-head battles and the way leaderboards display scores. But DJ Hero is already the most exciting music game around and is guaranteed to get the party started. To paraphrase Run DMC: gosh darn that DJ made my day.”

Given the Music Hub debacle I wouldn’t exactly place IGN at the top of the reliability list. Not that they’d be near the top of the list anyway, but still…

Boooo!.. Sellouts.. The track list sucks. I want REAL DJ’s… Tiesto, Sasha, Digweed, Debo… This game isn’t DJ.. It’s hip Hop Remix garbage.

Boooo! Your comment sucks. Don’t play the game, and quit trolling.

Games Master UK gave it 92, only 2 reviews on metacritic so far.

Not Trolling.. just want to make sure people are informed that this game has NOTHING to do with DJing. It should be called, Remixer Hero. Unlike Guitar hero where you are actually simulating that instruments movements. DJ Hero acts NOTHING like what a DJ does or how he/she operates or the music being freeformed instead of canned. There are better DJ games coming.

*This game is purely a money grab by Activision before the real DJ games hit.

yeti – i agree!

Daft Punk and DJ Shadow were involved in making this game – They’re not exactly known for attaching their name to things they don’t think are good.

However, MushroomStamp, I’m sure you have a better idea of what a DJ does than these guys.

Because having a criticism with something is trolling, right?

Not bothered by this game. As an ex-scratch DJ I was interested to be able to have a quick scratch now and again with out having to dig out my direct drives from the loft and set them up etc… but it sounds like this game has literally nothing to do with scratching and more to do with pressing buttons. dull dull dull
