Dead Space: Extraction sold 9,000 in the US last month, Divnich blames EA
Dead Space: Extraction sold a depressingly inevitable 9,000 units in the US last month, according to NPD data and Edge. The figure accounts for sales from September 29 to October 3.
Why? EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich has blamed lack of EA marketing spend.
“Electronic Arts didn’t market Dead Space Extraction as much as it does with other titles,” he said.
“And the success or failure of a Wii title usually correlates directly to marketing spend.
“If Electronic Arts spent little on marketing, I am sure the sell through was no surprise to them. So I do not believe sell through was a disappointment to EA.”
Damn, damn shame.

Why cant they understand that the wii is not for core games, all core gamers already sold their wii. Easy as that.

what the fuck where they expecting? it’s a lightgun shooter that takes itself way too seriously.
No one wants to play that shit.
not to mention, it’s a spin-off title of a game the general Wii audience doesn’t give half a damn about.

That shot up there is terrible, but it really doesn’t look that bad. It’s probably one of the best-looking Wii games out there.

It’s an on-rails shooter with last-gen graphics on the Wii, what the hell did he expect? Hardcore gamers have pretty much given up on the platform.
Next time make Dead Space: Yoga Excercises if you want to sell well on the Wii.

Nice to see this story provoking some intelligent responses.
Extraction’s a cracking game that really didn’t deserve to sell so poorly. But I’m not convinced the format made that much difference – had it been released on 360 and PS3 with the same lack of any kind of marketing push, I don’t think we’d have seen vastly higher figures than those.

I have to say as far as on rails shooters go, this is probably one of the best I’ve played. Plus, as Blerk mentioned, it’s one of the nicest looking Wii games available.
Obviously if a game is marketed well it’ll sell much better than a game that receives virtually no marketing, but another reason that will put potential buyers off was the games high RRP of £39.99.

To me it’s the result of 2 things: lack of marketing by EA and lack of interest in this type of games by the Wii owners. It’s not even a easy game to market, especially to the Wii audience.
If COD 4: Modern Warfare: Reflex doesn’t sell a lot of copies with the huge brand recognition the COD series has, it’s the end of core games on the Wii.

it is both of those things, but at the end of the day, no one gives a damn about an on-rails shooter.

I’ll probably get this after I’ve played through the original. Also waiting to see how the new Nyko gun thing fares after a few user reviews.

Its actually a good game and looks ok for a Wii game to (but still terrible for anything else). But selling this kind of thing on Wii is just stupid, its a known fact the target audience werent on that system be it fans of the original Dead Space or just people that like the genre.

@ mescalineeyes
I suppose you’re right with regards to the wider gaming community, but for what it’s worth I thought it was a great game.

Plenty of people gave a damn about the Resident Evil flavoured on-rails shooters, though.

Maybe with Natal and Sphere we may get this as an XBLA or PSN download. Here’s hoping.

It really did seem as though EA lost confidence in the title at the last minute, and just snuck it onto the shelves.
I remember them saying that this was going to be the final word on hardcore games for the Wii, so at one point it seemed they were fully committed to the title.
I’ve heard it’s supposed to be really good, but I have to be honest and say that the high RRP did hold me back. Games get discounted so quickly these days, that it’s only really the Uncharted 2′s of this world which warrant a day one purchase.
I do hope to pick this up though, but it will be for the sub 20 pound mark.

Far as i could see the game wasnt market’ed any less then other games, several sites i visit were plastered in ads for it.

I can’t really believe it was the lack of marketing that resulted in poor sales. The original Dead Space was not really marketed that well but it was just through the sheer quality of the game that it sold solid numbers.
I have to agree with ‘mescalineeyes’ that it being an on-rail shooter probably also didn’t help.

Nice to see the ignorant masses crowding around to make assumptions about games they haven’t played with inaccurate remarks about the product itself.
The game looks great.
It also plays great.
If your biased with the game is its format of choice, that makes you the idiot, not E.A.

Gosh, and here I was thinking that since VG247 has some really good writers, then they’d have decent readers. Reading comments here, I realise just how wrong I was.
