We’re seeing Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling this afternoon – got any questions?

Thursday, 15th October 2009 13:08 GMT By Patrick Garratt

We’re currently on our way to London for a Modern Warfare 2 demo and a chat with Infinity Ward comms boss Rob Bowling. Want to ask anything?

Then stick your questions in the comments below.

  1. Herlock

Do yu like Kotick, because some people started to hate your boss and company…
Are yu not tired about fps war game ?

“Will IW be getting a bigger cut of the cake given the premium price of MW2?”

You probably won’t be asking this and I understand why. But if the answer was positive, it would just make my decision to purchase it (despite the price hike) a bit easier; highly doubt it though…

I hold regular LAN parties, and one of the limitations of COD4 on LAN was that you couldn’t really use your own permutations/classes in a LAN environment. Has that changed? What sort of customisation can we expect? (I’m talking on the 360 here)

Will Activision be giving VG247 tonnes of copies to give away? :P

    #4 5 years ago
  5. bobbymington

Will we be fighting aliens in MW3?

    #5 5 years ago
  6. Patrick Garratt

I will try to ask all of these, so ask whatever you like.

    #6 5 years ago
  7. ScreenTearing

Does MW2 still have the constant spawning of enemies until you reach the “magic line”?

    #7 5 years ago
  8. Dralen

Tell him to reduce the price by £5! :P And ask him if modern warfare is still awesome?

    #8 5 years ago
  9. Windsmeare

Will there be Zombies? If not, why not!

  10. pracer

For me, I would like to ask about split screen. My house has two xb360s, and we enjoy playing online games together. However due to the price of regular games, let alone premium priced ones, we find it very hard to make the investment twice. We enjoy games like Gears and Halo due mainly to its couch co-op. Any chance of giving that same consideration to CoD games down the road?

    #10 5 years ago
  11. djhsecondnature

Are you worried that the price hike across platforms and PC will deter some potential buyers from playing your game? As surely as developers a lower price point could well reap the same financial benefits but allow more people to play the game you have worked so hard on.

    #11 5 years ago
  12. Dralen

Oh I thought of another one. Is the PC version still delayed? Not sure if thats been confirmed or not.

    #12 5 years ago
  13. slayernl

PC vesion ask about the pc version, I bet you get a no news
    answer but just ask him.
Will the pc version be released on the 10th?
And will there be a steam version?
Ask him if there is prestige in the pc version of the game.
Ask him if the team is working closely with Microsoft, and Sony to handle day 1 traffic on the muliplayer side of the game, nobody wants a bad experience on day 1 right?

  14. Patrick Garratt

    All good stuff…

  15. pracer

Thanks Patrick. Thats a cool way to handle it. Nice to be able to get a thought across.

    #15 5 years ago
  16. ReeceHeywood

Great if you could ask this Pat.

Not everyone has Xbox Live or PSN so will the game feature offline bots for use in multiplayer? The price tag in Europe is pretty steep for a game if it doesnt deliver the full potential for replay value.

    #16 5 years ago
  17. SticKboy

Is he worried about whether negative community/public perception of Bobby Kotick – his attitude, controversial statements, franchise milking and price hikes (*especially* in the UK) – will eventually foster an adverse aura around Activion published titles, leading to significant Marketing and PR challenges in the future?

Does he foresee Activision making similar mistakes as EA before John Riticiello came in and re-focussed on quality and innovation?

Can he please explain the price disparity between CoD:MW2 and a) CoD:MW1; b) The US price ($59.99 vs £55.99) and c) Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

If he had the power, would he seek Bobby Kotick’s replacement, or at least to have his mouth sown up?

    #17 5 years ago
  18. pracer

Bots. Genius really. If some of my fav games had off line ai bots that mimiced online game play type I would still be playing them (you hear me Mechassult – I am looking at you). Bots, that would be great to ask about too.

    #18 5 years ago
  19. Johnny Cullen

Has IW got any plans on making something from a new IP anytime soon?

    #19 5 years ago
  20. bobbymington

Will this game feature suicide bombers? like in serious sam!

    #20 5 years ago
  21. ReeceHeywood

@pracer, bots are the only reason Gears 2 has any replay value for me. Same could be said for Killzone 2.

    #21 5 years ago
  22. pracer

Ya know, not to overstep my bounds. But Acti has a way of over saturating a franchice. From Tony Hawk to GH. Is there any fear that too many CoD games will deluete the brand names strength?

    #22 5 years ago
  23. pracer

We play ODSTs firefight for the same reason. And also Quake ET had very strong bots too.

    #23 5 years ago
  24. Freek

Has the utterly cheap and anoying “Martyrdom” perk finally been removed from the game?
Or can we atleast filter it out on the console side aswell?

    #24 5 years ago
  25. bobbymington

Will DLC extended to anything more then new maps?
like new guns, or a Falcon punch.

    #25 5 years ago

Hope I’m not too late, typing from Chicago.

Will there be better clan support for MW2? Putting letters in front of your name is not clan support.

    #26 5 years ago
  27. The Hindle

Ask if there will be any assassination modes in Multiplayer like once youre killed you are out of the game.

    #27 5 years ago
  28. blackdreamhunk

yes I do in fact I want to know about the price hick and what going on with that. I want to know is stances on pc gaming.

    #28 5 years ago
  29. SticKboy

Woo-hoo! Look who’s awake, everybody! Let the nuttiness continue!

    #29 5 years ago
  30. reask

Will you ask them will there be a pleb section in it.
I want to play multi player but I would like to be given the chance to level up.
I mean it cannot be that hard to implement.

They could make it optional so as not to hinder everyone else.
I find that to be the most frustrating thing about on line.
If you could enter at a level and were only able to progress as you got more wins on each level it would make the experience much more enjoyable.

I don’t consider myself a bad gamer but I don’t have the time to spend all day on it either.

So when I am constantly getting whopped each time I join a game it just puts me off.

    Thanks Pat.

  31. pracer

@reask CoD is a tough ass game to jump right into, the perks tend to unbalance things imo. Nothing better then getting sniped through a freaken wall. If you haven’t done so already give Bad Company a go. I prefer it far more to CoD to be honest. And the new video teasers on LIVE/(PSN?) make Bad Company 2 look damn nice.

    #31 5 years ago
  32. Gekidami

    I have 2:

-So you guys said that you werent reuseing anything from World At War, isnt there anything that game did that you liked?

-Ever since CoD4 came out people have been pretty vocal about some of its balancing issues (like bunny hopping, “Noob tube”, M16 insta-kill, throwing grenades from one side of the map to the other like its artillery and martyrdom to name a few), what have you guys taken into account and feel that you’ve ‘fixed’?

    #32 5 years ago
  33. reask

Bad company was ok but I do like the COD franchise.
Looks like I will just have to spend a little more time at it.
Still I reckon it is something that should be considered in all games.

There is a big untapped market out there imo.

Older folks just do not have the same spare time as the younger ones.
I reckon though if given a chance we could show some of them how its done. ;)

    Replica Gucci Shoes

  36. mfnick

Would you ever split from Activision? You deserve better than to be working for those scumbags & im sure you’d be able to get the money to do so from the original MW & this one.

Also – The entire gaming world hates Activision right now. A lot of members from a lot of sites are going to refuse to buy MW2 brand new, instead getting it 2nd hand so they (or yourselves unfortunately) dont get to see the profits. I realise it will be a small number in the grand scheme of things but do you have anything to say about that?

    #36 5 years ago
  37. _S_E_R_G_

Is there PC version delayed or not?
    yes or no

    #37 5 years ago
  38. ScreenTearing

Are you worried the comments from Bobby Kotick towards the PS3 and the announcement of Map Pack time exclusivity for the 360 will lead to a decrease in sales of MW2 on the PS3?

    #38 5 years ago
  39. SticKboy

    *Great* question, mfnick.

It seems that Infinity Ward is adding a lot of features to the multiplayer. Knowing hardcore gamers, it’s only a matter of time until someone find an unfair advantage with some of those features, how are you guys preparing for that? Can you disable features on the servers end or only with a patch?

    #41 5 years ago
  42. Hunam

I have some PC related questions also:

Will the server browser be the exact same one in the rest of the series (seriously it hasn’t changed since it was bought from the Q3 engine)

Will the PC version ever get some kind of matchmaking service like Live so the less popular modes also get some love.

    #42 5 years ago
  43. blackdreamhunk

yea ask actvision if they are going to war with pc gamers!!!!!If they are they are going to lose.

    #43 5 years ago
  44. The Hindle

Can we have Chuck Norris as a kill streak reward, hes way better then the acc 130 gunship

    #44 5 years ago
  45. Mattigan

Will all console multiplayer modes have a hardcore variant, like the PC version?

    #45 5 years ago
  46. Johnny Cullen

May as well ask a curious question for the PC version, even though I am getting it for PS3 or 360.

Is the PC version a GFW title? That may have been answere dalready, but may as well ask anyways.

    #46 5 years ago
  47. MasterChiefFenix

Will there be any Modern Warfare 2 exclusive gameplay mode that isn’t in any other FPS? thnx.

  48. Armitage

After playing the first two COD games on PC, I remember being somewhat disappointed by the lack of ability to lean in the console versions. I had read that the Sixaxis was to be utilised in the PS3 version and wrongly assumed that tilt would be used to lean. Has this ever been considered? If not, why not, dammit? I suppose if you haven’t implemented this you could just patch it in later for me? ;)

I’ve been hearing rumours that CoD on XBLA/PSN will be out before MW2… if this is true will there be a process for those who pre-ordered the editions to receive codes via e-mail to be able to download the product on release or will they have to wait for their copies of MW2 to arrive with the codes inside the box?

That’s if CoD is being released earlier that is.

    #49 5 years ago
  50. Johnny Cullen

Oh, and ask about the release date for Call of Duty Classic for PSN/XBLA for those wh didnt order the Prestiege version.

    #50 5 years ago
  51. ScreenTearing

@The Hindle That’s a great idea, imagine a Chuck Norris Hardcore mode. Roundhouse kicks all around.

    Another question for Robert.

“In the process of making the list of achievements/trophies do you take in consideration what Randy Pitchford said about easy achievements/trophies leading to more sales?”

    #51 5 years ago
  52. locus2k1

also is IW be looking into anything regarding Natal/PS3 Motion Controllers for future IP?

    #52 5 years ago
  53. locus2k1

    whoops, bad grammar:

also is IW looking into anything regarding Natal/PS3 Motion Controllers for future IP?

    #53 5 years ago
  54. JonFE

    @ Johnny Cullen:

Oh, and ask about the release date for Call of Duty Classic for PSN/XBLA for those who didn’t order the Prestige version.

Apparently, it will also be included in the Hardened edition but even so the question stands.

  55. Armitage

That’s a good point, and reminds me.. GT5 is said to be incorporating head tracking with the PS Eye – has this been considered for a COD game?

    #55 5 years ago
  56. Hunam

@ScreenTearing: Do you actually think IW could get more sales? Everyone with a console or PC is getting their games!

    #56 5 years ago
  57. Johnny Cullen

Jon – Thanks. Forgot about that. :)

    #57 5 years ago
  58. ScreenTearing

@Hunam: yes I do. Go to some of the websites about achievements or trophies and see how many people from that site say they are not going to buy MW2 because it has “very hard” achievements/trophies. Look at Valkyria Chronicles that on message boards all around the web, people say they are only going to buy it when Sega releases a trophy patch. It’s pathetic, but it’s true.

What Randy said it’s more or less that there is around 50.000 people that decides in buying or not a game based on achievements difficulty.

Of course, since Activision hopes to sell more than 10 million copies of MW2, 50.000 is not relevant.
