First Brutal Legend reviews go live with nines from IGN

IGN’s gone live with the first reviews for Brutal Legend.

Judgement: it’s bloody awesome. IGN US went with a 9.0, while IGN Australia went with a 9.3.

A blurb from the US review:

“Brutal Legend isn’t quite perfect and there is room for improvement (it’s a little short, side quests are repetitive…), but when the credits roll you’ll find yourself hoping for a sophomore release. Double Fine created a rich heavy metal universe and backstory full of great characters and creatures, with potential for an out-of-this-world sequel. Here’s hoping Shafer and company get a chance to take us there.”

The US video review is after the jump. Game’s out on the PS3 and 360 this week.

Good, even higher than I even hoped. And IGN really wrote down Shafer instead of Schafer? Wow, just wow…

Grand so, I’ll pick it up with Uncharted 2 on Tues! Demo was great, even if the actual gameplay was a little rough around the edges…

Really enjoyed the demo, reminds me of a heavy metel Zelda. Its the script that got me though, very fucking funny :-)
Will it sell? Well it won’t have much comptition on the 360 on release, tho Uncharted will probably own it on the PS3.
Nice to see EA still taking chances and trying out new ip’s.

    this game is terrible. really.
technical mess, the gameplay is a joke, the writing gets really lame further down the line.
the coolest part about the game is ozzy.

what consoles are you guys buying this on 360 Ps3, is there any difference between the two

I want this, but not enough to buy it on release day, especially since Uncharted 2 releases on the same day, that’s gaming suicide if ever such a thing could exist.

And now I shall teach you of french kissing.

the 360 version is a technical mess, pop ins, screen tearing, frequent drops in frame rate, but, no jaggies whatsoever. (HD installed)

    haven’t seen the ps3 version.

@ mescalineeyes: It is? I played the demo on the 360 (won a code to download it before it was released) and it didn’t seem bad to me.

    Joe Queenan speaks the truth

Joe Queenan just said that Brutal Legend looks like a generic video game. He’s clearly a flaming retard.

    And Jack Black remains funny.

Multiplatform game of the year right here. Period. And from what I have played of the US demo on xb360. The guys that claim it is a mess is on crack. Looks great, plays great, and funny as shit. Heavey Metal Zelda is a good call. Great game. I have been waiting for a long long time for something like this.

Actually mescalineeyes is right, i’ve played the full 360 version and it does stuffer from all of that.

And as an actor Jack Black does stuck, he’s ok in Brutal Legend though.

Guess time will tell. I have only played the Demo and haven’t seen anything bad in it.

Loved the demo but also heard the main game drops off fairly sharpish after that ends. I thought the gameplay was fairly generic but the scripting carried it well.

fwiw, the game is nothing like the demo.

but hey, while I don’t like it, you guys might. I found the RTS sections to be terrible.

  21. Gekidami

I like the game even with its lame gameplay. But i agree that the RTS moments are probably the worst bits, over all they’re just boring really and the slow paced gameplay just adds to that.
