Platinum distances itself a bit from PS3 version of Bayonetta

In the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, there is a preview of Bayonetta which has a disclaimer attached to it stating that SEGA is the one’s behind the PS3 port of the game.
Yeah, we all knew that, but Platinum Games, apparently, want to make that very clear.
However, for those who have not played the demo, there is also one posted within it stating very plainly that it was converted by SEGA – which can be seen on Siliconera.
Recently, comparisons were made to both the 360 and PS3 versions, with the PS3 port visually lacking by various degrees which has resulted in outcries, and arguing across the net.
So, hopefully, before it’s released next year, any muddiness or screen tearing will be remedied by SEGA.
Loads more through all the lovely links.
Thanks, PS3center.

from the first, why you decide to make a PS3 version ?
Rubbish.

Won’t be the first time a port has come up less then steller. Ports to Dreamcast, to Xboxone, to Gamecube, to Wii, to PS3. It is almost always better to be the target platform.

An on-screen statement from Sega pro-actively associating themselves with the title is not the same thing as Platinum Games “distancing” themselves from it.
Neither is a statement “Converted by SEGA” a ‘disclaimer’ unless those reporting the presence of those three words are trying to inject a subtext of blame into their article.

In other words they’re making sure people know who to blame for the not so well done port.

It’s a huge turnaround though from 2/3 years ago though, were it was Sony who were getting blamed for the PS3 getting bad ports, now it’s the developers themselves.

Nobody is to be blame for anything, because there’s no “shoddy port” to criticise.
“OMG SLIGHTLY LOWER RESOLUTION TEXTURES! SHODDY PORT! IT’S TERRIBLE! SEGA AND PLATINUM GAMES SUCK!”
To explain it in layman’s terms, there’s less memory to store textures in the PS3′s chip. The only solution to this is to make the texture resolution slightly lower. Lower resolution textures = less memory used.
They are working within the constraints of the hardware. This does not = a bad port.
The 360 has its own failings too, such as the lack of disc-space, which will sometimes see textures and sound files compressed heavily if there isn’t enough space to store it all. E.G. GTA IV.
Again, simply working within the constraints of the hardware.
Fanboys. *yawn*

That is horse shit.
If Uncharted 2 can look the way it does on ps3, than Bayonetta should be able to replicate the 360 experience to a T (except for no AA/QAA, which is fair game I think)

“If Uncharted 2 can look the way it does on ps3, than Bayonetta should be able to replicate the 360 experience to a T (except for no AA/QAA, which is fair game I think)”
It does replicate it almost identically, except for slightly lower resolution textures. The PS3 also has less jaggies than the 360 version, which is one thing it has over the 360 version.
The issue with the PS3 is that it uses *one* chip for everything, whereas the 360 has a dedicated graphics card, dedicated processor, etc. This is not a slight on the PS3′s hardware, because it’s a powerful beast in the right hands.
What it means it that the PS3 needs to run all its processes off of one chip. So if running the game’s background processes takes up a large amount of memory, and if there isn’t enough memory left over to store the higher resolution textures, what other *option* is there than to reduce the resolution of those textures? Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of how computers work can understand that.
What do you expect them to do? Wave a magic wand and create more internal memory out of thin air?
Comparing Uncharted 2, an exclusive title made by a first party developing owned by Sony themselves and made entirely with the PS3 specifications in mind to Bayonetta, a multi-format title that needs to take *both* console’s architecture into consideration, is like comparing apples to oranges. The PS3 is by no stretch more powerful than the 360.

Sony should handle the port, ND would make this game shine on PS3.

Sony’s in-house devs have far better things to do then port 3rd party games, especially mediocre ones like this.

Nice to see that someone gets it. Esp that last line. I think the two systems are very close in terms of what they can actualy do in output. As for multiplatform games? I think they are going to play better on the target system period. Besides when it comes to multiplatform games your always held to the lowest common denominator, ie the weakest speck of each system. No one is going to make a game so big it can’t fit on a xb360 disc, and no one is going to make a game that will overload the ps3 memory. Most games will prolly be a tad better, smoother, faster, etc on xb360. It has always been that way, and prolly will be for the near future. Look at PS2 vs GC. GC had far more power/mem but most of the time the PS2 versions were just plan nicer. Factor into it the much larger install base for xbox and I don’t too many devs/pubs will be wetting all over themself to make sure the PS3 port tops the xb360 OR vica versa for that matter. If they get it close, and it is smooth, playable and looks nice .. your done. And In truth two things: these versions are VERY close – and, this game is ho-hum at best.
Disclaimer: yes the PS3 can do nice visuals. So can the xbox360.

Working within the hardware constraints is not a valid reason at all.
When looking at games like Burnout Paradise (wich even looks slightly better on PS3) or Batman Arkam Asylum you can see that when the developer putts in the time and effort to optimise the code for PS3 there is no reason to have a noticeable visual difference between the game versions.
But in both of those cases the original developer handeled the port in house (or in Burnout’s case PS3 was lead platform). So you have an experienced team with a passion for the game making sure it’s as good as it can be across all platforms.
And looking through the comparison articles on Digital Foundry, that does seem to be the norm. Poor PS3 ports have for the most been launch title issues.
That’s not the case with Bayonetta. Like Half Life 2: Orange Box. It’s been farmed out to a publischer who doesn’t care about anything other then getting it out there as fast as possible and is cutting corners to do so.
Wich is a shame.

Played both demos and you’d need to be blind not to see that the 360 is smoother, better looking, has less tearing (PS3 has TONS) and is basically the superior version by just about every measurable criteria.
There’s a time to have a dig at fanboys Michael, but this isn’t it – PS3 owners are being let down by an inferior product that the developer is basically disowning.

which just proves that Bayonetta should be easily en par with the 360 version on the ps3 … it’s not like Bayonetta is the best looking 360 game, either.

I’m wondering if Michael O’Connor’s PS3 has two HDMI ports (which both output 1080p at 120FPS) and a gigabit ethernet hub built in, as his information on the machine seems to be based on the 2004 E3 announcement.

Unless you only have a PS3 or you prefer the DS3 for action games (I do) then get the 360 version. It was made for it. Simple.
