Pachter: PS3 beat 360 and Wii in US last month, double-digit growth has returned
Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter just predicted that the US games trade is about to return to double-digit growth following six straight months of negative figures.
“We forecast sales of $750 million, up 21% compared to last year’s $618 million,” the analyst said in a note.
Pachter also predicted that PS3 beat both Wii and 360 in American in September.
“We estimate sell-through of 390,000 Wii hardware units (down 45% from last year), 350,000 Xbox 360 (up 1% from last year), and 410,000 PS3 consoles (up 76% year-over-year) as the price cuts for all three consoles spurred demand,” he added.
The NPD releases next Thursday.

LMAO a year head start for what? A 7 million gap that is the equivalent of only xbox360 owners who will never buy a PS3 and who have bought a 360 at least 3 times due to the RROD and other hardware issues.
LOL where’s Aaron Greenturd now? If Sony would release a 20gb PS3 slim for $249.99 M$ would be finished before Natal releases.

If Pachter is anywhere near accurate, I think those numbers would be pretty disappointing for Sony. Given the hype and the huge improvement in design of the PS3 Slim I would have expected to see a bigger and longer jump in sales from its introduction. At this rate I could see sales dropping back to where they were before the Slim arrived.
Still, with Christmas looming ever closer there should be plenty of sales to go around. It will be interesting to see what demand for the Wii is like this year or if it really has finally peaked.

My guess is that the Wii has finally peaked and sales will not catch up despite the recent price drop.
I think/hope this whole alternative/motion/wiggle/whatever-control nonsense will soon be a page in the history books and natal/sphere will fail miserably. *prayer*
