“Decapitation, dismemberment” and more removed from L4D2 for Oz release

left4dead230

While news of Left 4 Dead clearing OFLC regulations this morning will bring relief to Down-Under gamers, it looks as though large cuts have been made to the approved version.

According to News.com.au, the ratings board has confirmed that “the game no longer contains depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment.

“No wound detail is shown and the implicitly dead bodies and blood splatter disappear as they touch the ground.”

You can read the full OFLC report here.

Melee weapons made the cut. EA’s quoted in that News.com.au article as saying it still hopes the full version will be classified. Hate to be the voice of doom, but it doesn’t look like it, does it?

Left 4 Dead 2 was originally refused classification in Australia last month.

Thanks, Filofax.

Sounds like the UK retailers are going to be selling quite a few copies to OZ now.

That sucks big time.

I remember when code veronica came out on my dreamcast, and when i got the shotgun i realised you couldn’t blow any heads or legs off, it was a real bummer, because thats all i wanted to do when i was teenager :)

Sounds like a sensible decision given that Australia is a nation populated by chavs.

I wouldn’t bother editing games for Australia if it was up to me.

Not enough gamers there for it to be worthwhile.

Valve would do anything to increase sales.
L4D is a tasteless game aimed at 13-15 year-olds. That’s why they want the 15+ rating in Australia so badly.

So basically they’ll release the German version in Australia now. ;)

They wanted the MA15+ in Australia so badly because there is no R18+ for games here. Any game that doesn’t make the MA15+ cut off gets banned.

We all know that there is no R18+ for games in Australia.
But this doesn’t make Valve less greedy or the game less tasteless.

How is it tasteless, exactly?

Hate to tell you this, but when you swing an axe at someone hard enough there’s a decent chance of decapitation or dismemberment.

How would one go about creating a tasteful zombie infection shooter anyway?

What the hell is tasteful in this context? Sitting down with each zombie individually and having a game of chess over some brandy and a cigar, and if you lose you agree to let the zombie have your brain?

Oh, right, dismemberment. So you expect the zombies to explode into dance when you shoot them, to bleed rainbows and to groom you if they get too close?

I dont think Australia really care about games being realistic. :D

@ Gamoc
Why not?

Besides, ANY game which is plain shit as soon as you remove all the gore and violence is not worth a single cpu-cycle.

Because it’s a zombie game – it’s supposed to be a zombie game. If the zombies start grooming you and dancing it is not a zombie game, it’s a Bollywood movie.
