Japanese hardware sales – PS3 sales drop to 39k
It’s that time again, kids! It’s Japanese hardware sales time!
In a gist: PS3 sales are down by 12k from last week, while the DSi rules the lot as it does most of the time.
Full hardware numbers are below. Last weeks numbers are found here.
- DSi – 63,342
- PS3 – 39,960
- PSP – 17,334
- DS Lite – 15,057
- Wii – 11,731
- 360 – 4,854
- PS2 – 2,347
Thanks, Nintendo Everything.

Nice try VG but PS3 Japanese sales are actually
46,258 NOT 39,960!

Nope, those are the right numbers.
What your thinking of is probably the Famitsu numbers, they’re not official.
These are.

I wonder if microsoft will ever be big in japan. The 360 is doing better in the region but it’s hardly a runaway sucess.

It was doing much better when they were still funding big games for it. They appear to have given up again on that front.

@Blerk
I think that the drop in influence of the Japanese market (at least for the PS3/360) may have been partly behind that. The big Japanese devs seem to be falling over themselves to be more Western too – when what I think they need to do is rediscover their Japanese identities, just bring it up to date a bit.
Interesting choice of headline – “PS3 sales drop to 39k” – EG went with – “PS3 still outselling Wii despite dip” … Shatner ain’t here so someone has to

Seems that everything which isn’t the DS is screwed in Japan.

Odd that you went with a headline to belittle the PS3′s achievements instead of noting the abysmal Wii sales.
When PS3 was pulling in 10k a week, the headlines were all about how badly the console was performing.

Ecu, Cullen is not anti-Sony or anti-PS3 and sales of the console are perfectly topical given its recent boost. “What legs will it have?” will inevitably follow “how well will it do on release?”.

To be fair, they’re hardly the only culprits.

“Odd that you went with a headline to belittle the PS3’s achievements instead of noting the abysmal Wii sales.”
Noting the abysmal Wii sales would be a little stupid, given it’s the week before the price cut takes effect. Much like it was when people were talking about the dead PS3 sales before its price cut went live.

The only chance Microsoft has to improve (please note: *improve* not *turn*) x360 fate in Japan, is release a Natal SKU in slim form along with some appropriate games…
Aggressive pricing apparently won’t cut it (has been really cheap there since launch), JRPG’s are very hit and miss nowadays and they already tried that, what else could they do if not go after Japan’s Wii-craze?
