I downloaded the beta… not played it yet though. I really want to try the SP but I guess it will have to suffice.

Brutal Legand is freaken awesome. I had a go of it last week (in the states). That is what I call a Must Buy. I just dl’d the beta/demo of uncharted2 yesterday. I don’t think I have seen a more generic shooter. Don’t get that one for its online play. Single player mode? Maybe. But online? Slow, clunky, ugly. 5 vs 5. The game smacks of last generation for its online play. The match making is nice(best I have seen without the word Bungie next to the name), and I do semi like the “leveling up”/equipable perks type stuff, but again that ain’t new either. I would say if you never played on LIVE, your prolly impressed with Uncharteds2 online play. If you have both, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before, and you have seen it better. And despite my hatred for past NFS games I am looking forward to toying with Shift. But I suspect that Forza3, GT5, and Race Pro are all going to tickle my fancy a bit more.

What has having played on Live have to do with it? The differentiator here is a third person shooter with all the climbing aspects. What specifically is it that you think people who haven’t played on Live are going to think is great which is so common to the Live experience?

Because Gears of War is also 3rd person and while I am not a big fan of said game its gameplay beats the hell out of Uncharted 2. If you played LIVE chances are you would have known that.
Just because someone puts down a game from one system or another doesn’t a fanboy make. Uncharted is way the hell over rated. And just for the record imo so is Halo.

Hey, all i see is Uncharted 2 reviews beating the hell out of both Gears games.

Well thats nothing to do with Live and all to do with a specific game – say what you mean don’t put it down to Live being better. That then goes down to preference. Personally I don’t like the bullet sponge nature of Gears and the close combat sucks. Where in Gears is there full hand to hand combat, where in Gears is the climbing and shooting/attacking while climbing? See not seen it all before have you?

For reference I thought the first Uncharted was also overrated. :)

If you want an example of outstanding pvp action on ps3, go for Warhawk or Fat Princess. I know game tastes are individual. And I know that PS3 needs a big name hit right now to go along with their price drop and holiday push. But for Crist sake with some of you folks wake up Uncharted 2 is pretty bad. No disrespect to Naughty Dog. But based on Uncharted ones single player(only thing I have to gauged the sequels sp mode) and the demo I have already played yesterday – advanced to level 8 btw, its a ho-hum game. We will see what sales show. I am guessing it will do better % sales wise in the UK then it does in the states. I don’t see it being a break away hit here. Mostly I think it will go unoticed. Games are VERY online heavy here and UC2 ain’t gonna turn heads.

Not to mention Gears Of War online sucks in both of them. Its a known fact.

Bah, depends on who gets involved. I have no intention of arguing with someone so ignorant myself. I’ve stoped with BDH i’ll stop with the 360 fanboys to, more then 2 posts is just a waste of time.

@Gek
Already said I wasn’t a huge fan of Gears. But if you think the online is bad in Gears, how the hell can you even remotly claim to like UC2s online? Gears brought the whole duck and shoot cover system to the consoles. UC2 just copies it, and does a poor job. Your right about the ledge hanging and shooting. And the climbing. Both gimmicks tho. Are you honestly gonna hang your butt out in the open on a ledge and shoot people? Thats a great way to get shoot dead pretty fast. As for climbing.. sure it adds an element of hide and seek. But it doesn’t change or revolutionize anything. Lots of shooters let ya jump ontop of boxes. Or just take the stairs/ramp/etc. I think your grasping for straws.

I think how well the ledge hanging and climbing works and is used will depend on MP level design, but I’ve already heard several people comment on the fact it does work. Initial race for the high ground, never quite knowing where you will be shot from etc. It does add a lot to a game. Verticality is not used as much as it could be in shooters, often just in a limited way. Best recent example was Shadowrun for me – hugely underrated game because they messed up the pricing. Should have been a more budget release or had more content for full price.

@Dr

Yup I agree. Up is a nice place to take shooters. Gives things a fresh feel. Your right Shadowrun was a decent game. I think people wanted the Shadowrun game namesake to stay in cyberpunk rpg genere tho.

For the record I am not a huge shooter fan i own a few, but don’t live for em and play more non shooters then shooters. This gen my fav shooter is Bad Company. I love the way the class systems works. And I really enjoy the objective based goals in Gold Rush. Gets the whole team working together without too much trouble. Fat Princess is also an amazing game. I group it together with shooters because it plays like one and there is nothing else out there too much like it. It does remind me of Castle Crashers in its art style tho. Warhawk is nice. And for mindless fun with 4 people on one system in teh living room Halo isn’t too bad. ODSTs firefight is a lot of fun with friends. So is Horde Mode in Gears. More games should have offline bots for same room multiplayer gaming.
I need to let it go, but damn does UC2 bug me lol. I know average when I see it, and that game smacks of it.

Sometimes games I just don’t get why people like them, but you have to accept that a lot of people do like Uncharted. The review scores from multiformat places are stellar, so maybe it’s just something that’s not for you. Move on to something you do like. :)

@pracer:
If you played the Uncharted 2 beta and think it sucks, then you sir are an idiot. That’s like saying Batman Arkham Asylum sucks. Some games are executed so well in all areas of production, you may not like them (and that is fine), but to say it sucks (and in your case, put it down) is pure ignorance and most likely due to some sort of bias as well (not to mention comes accross very grammar school-ish).

I’m not about to get into a debate with you, because I already know your opinion and you know mine. I just wanted to make sure you heard it.

Having played the Beta now and just from a Deathmatch and the 4 levels available perspective I’d say you have some reasoning for your points. The climbing/hanging aspect of the game is massively under utilised in those 4 levels, and it does just boil down to what has come before but without the ladders and boxes. Bit disappointed in it that way.

I still think there are some key differentiators between this and Gears though. There was comparatively a lot more run and gun going on here, less cover use – means for me the fights have more variety. Opponents are so bullet spongy either – which for me is a personal preference. The overall look/feel/atmosphere is also very different. Whether the overly macho styles of Gears is a parody or not, to some it is off putting. As is the style of Uncharted to some too.

I’ll have to try some of the other match types too. Controls seem tighter than Uncharted 1 – maybe that’s just me?

I respectfully disagree. Have you climbed up the walls to the higher areas in the temple or the sniper lookout points in the Village or the street signs in the plazza? Those are pretty cool. What about having to throw the treasure up to 2nd stories in order to reach the goal? The Tomb Raider-ish climbing, jumping, hanging, all while shooting; this is stuff I can’t recall seeing much in multiplayer match arena games before, let alone done this well.

No, but I have hung over the edge, waited for someone to come along, then grabbed them and pulled ‘em over to their unsuspecting death. That’s pretty fresh. Also, plently of times I’m about to go up to 2nd level or roof & the hanging aspect allows me to shoot anyone up there before pulling my entire body up. Again, fresh and well executed advancement in gameplay.

From my experience with the beta/demo, this looks to be one of the best 3RD PERSON multiplayer games of all time. And for the record, I love Gears of War and definitley see the influence it had on Uncharted 2.

Peace!
