The D-Pad,the swiftness of the analogs, the pressure sensitivity of the famous PlayStation face buttons, and last but not least the perfect grip around the body of the pad. Thanks for sharing this.

After using the Xbox pad I can't go back to using a dualshock. It's especially awful for FPS games, the thumbsticks have convex tops which is about as wrong as you can get, it's far too small and causes handcramps, it lacks enough resistance in the thumbsticks and the deadzone is NEVER right in PS3 games, and the triggers are atrocious and bordering on unusable without a 3rd-party clip-on extension.

It's a dinosaur of a design which badly needs rethinking, and one of the (many) reasons I won't own a PS3.

Oh, and holding a standard controller and a dildo? The most amusing thing is you'll do it and you'll think you *don't* look like a total buffoon! xD

I like how Sony are going for the 'tacked-on without much thought or effort' route of motion controls. They truly are following in the Wii's footsteps. Look how well core gaming is doing on that system!

The future of motion control is in control augmentation: Things like minority report style interfaces and headtracking working in tandem with tradional controllers, not forcing a bad replacement control schemes into games because it's fad of the month.

LOL Reask, its ok but come on what did you expect me to write. I've been gaming with the DualShock across 3 PS generations. You know what they say: If it ain't broke don't fix it.

So G1GA is it fair to say the 360 pad is a tarted version of the dreamcast Pad :P the dreamcast and 360 have a lot in common you know. History has a funny way of repeating it self :D

Edit: I just read the rest of your post LMFAO start all over fresh start? Do you really think the nextbox will have a different pad. First of all they had to make a new pad because the Duke wasn't doing it for everyone. It looked like a small black football and felt like a fucked up frisbee. Then the S-pad tried to trim some fat but was still clunky. Note to M$: little kids can't grip that shit-which leads to fewer sales-DUH.

The DualShock is simply the worlds best console pad ever. That's why the pad hasn't changed. "Us" PlayStation fans love the great precision of the D-Pad,the swiftness of the analogs, the pressure sensitivity of the famous PlayStation face buttons, and last but not least the perfect grip around the body of the pad.

The only thing that feels better than a dualshock pad in my hands is a big phat Latina booty. The 360 pad is ok but it's no DS3. (IMO) But I bet you M$ won't make a complete change of it for their next consoles because so many Xbots love how it feels now.

Sony - Add an analog stick to both Motion Controllers to control movement of characters in the 3d world. It's very complicated to navigate through a 3d world without moving away from the front of the TV. Let the devs grow into it instead of forcing it down their throats

Capcom - Re-do the code! No cheap ports please
Use two wands with 2 different colors. One for right hand one for left
To switch to Melee, Reach behind your back with left Hand.
Hold down trigger to enable 1:1 arm movement with chris
To switch to shotgun reach behind with your right hand.
Reach again to switch to machine gun
Reach down to switch to pistol

Getting zombies off by pushing with both hands repeatedly forward and back. Think raising the roof, but in front of you. This is the action you would do if a zombie tried to eat your face.

Aiming - keep it as is.
Running - Alternate hands up and down. Think running motion with your hands
Toss Grenades - Reach left hand down to grab grenade and throwing motion to throw grenade.

They just did a copy and paste job from the Wii code.
If they really wanted to do a re-make Sony needs to give the controller and analog stick!

The history of the DS3 is quite interesting.

It's basically a tarted up SNES pad.

After the little tiff between Sony and Nintendo over the SNES Super CD, they basically copied the SNES pad for the PS1, but added cool looking handles and another two shoulder buttons. Apart from that, it was basically the SNES pad, but I believe that it would have been Nintendo's patent on the D-pad that led to Sony's 'four arrow' style one.

After that it got the analogue sticks, then rumble, then rumble and analogue sticks, then it was killed off by a ridiculous looking boomerang style pad, then it came back when the boomerang pad got almost universally ridiculed...

Then the rumble got taken out and tilt sensitivity put in, then the rumble got put back in along with the tilt control, giving us the DS3.

I think it's about time for a fresh re-design from scratch.

I tried it sat down. It's the shape / grip more than the weight. It's not really designed to work with just one hand.

I never said this method was good Psycho. Hell i had a tough time getting used to the controls playing this on a DS3. So a glowing dildo thingy i think not, and besides I got most of the trophies. once I platinum it I'll probably never play this game again

Did you try it sat down or just standing? Sat down and resting on your lap is a lot like holding it with two hands.

I actually did (try it) for the hell of it. I can't comfortably use the triggers and the analogue stick for any amount of time with one hand. I end up adjusting my hand position all the time.

I also noticed I have the tendency to keep pushing the stick left one handed, rather than holding it in the centre.

@Psychotext
Obviously a separate dedicated controller would work better, but as a system this isn't as bad as you might think - try it. I'll repeat that it also doesn't cost another £15 to buy as *every* owner will already have one. That's a big point in terms of support right there.

So you really think that using a DS3 in this way doesn't suck TEA? You don't think that having just half the controller modelled better (like the nunchuck) wouldn't be a far better solution?

I know you're defensive of anything Sony does... but good god, this is a shit solution to the problem. Add an analogue stick to the wand or provide some sort of breakout controller.

Oh yeah.

I forgot that the analogue sticks are both in the middle of the DS3 for some reason...

When I saw him holding it in one hand, the position of the stick on both the Wii and the 360 pad (thumb pointing forward) must have come into my mind and make me think that it was in the same place on the DS3, strangely.

@freedom_stain
Yeah that was so you could play RPGs one handed and draw a map with your other hand :D. Agreed re:Wii-mote buttons. Needed more in sensible positions. At lead the Wandildo buttons look reasonably placed, though it would have been nice if an analog stick could have been incorporated.

I just went and tried to use a DS3 one handed - couple of comments. 1) It is workable bearing in mind 2) It's not another £15 for a nun-chuck 3) It's perfectly fine sat down - which is how you'd play most single player games like this.

Some game types might be better stood up, but I think this largely covers it with an add on everyone will already have.

@Gigahurtz: Um, use the handy analogue stick on the other side of the pad? ;)

I don't see what's wrong with this. As Gekidami said the DS3 isn't heavy, and it seems like a fairly obvious (and cheap) way to implement motion control in games where you need a second analogue input.

The PS3 motion controller struck me from the start as, if not quite as technically impressive, certainly more useful than Natal given its accuracy and the fact you still have access to buttons.

Anyone remember this thing from the original ps1 era?

Totally over cluttered of course, but I reckon the wii could do with a few more buttons, particularly on the remote.

@<b>NiceFellow</b>:
Thanks!

@<b>TEA</b>:
How many PS2 games could be played with *only one hand* and -more importantly- *what* were you doing with your other hand?

@<b>G1GA</b>:
Use the right thumbstick I guess :)

Well the DS3 isnt all that heavy and its more then possible to use in one hand but its still awkward. Especially the way the guys holding it in this video; Side ways would probably be better.

The glowing ball is for the EyeToy to pick up and translate, along with other inputs from the controller, into accurate 1:1 matching - so yeah, it's pretty important.

Have to agree than in its current form the wand looks kind of silly. I mean, what is the purpose of having a glowing ball on top of the wand? Is that vital to its operation or just Sony's way to be different to the Wiimote?

As for using it along with a DS3, I'd imagine it would be awkward, if only for balance reasons. But bringing out a nunchuck leaves Sony open to copycat criticism...

Maybe, becuase you only have to use one side of the controller it's fine, but it's still not balanced.
